Elijah Canlas openly shared his thoughts on celebrities choosing to stay silent on social issues, saying he is personally willing to stand up for his beliefs even if it affects his career.

The Kapamilya actor made the statement during the ‘You Talk’ segment of the program ‘YSpeak 2.0’, where the discussion touched on artists who avoid speaking about important national issues out of fear that their jobs or careers may be compromised.
“Ako, generally wala akong paki. Wala akong paki masyado sa career ko yata. Parang I just go out there and protest in the streets, I speak my mind,” Elijah said.
The award-winning actor added that he feels a deep sense of responsibility to use his voice, especially as someone who considers himself a “scholar ng bayan.”
“And also bilang scholar ng bayan, feeling ko, responsibilidad ko ‘yon na mag-speak up at lumaban para sa mga nasa laylayan, para sa mga nasa marginalized,” he continued.
Despite his strong statement, Elijah later clarified with humor that he still does care about his career to some extent.
“Baka isipin nila wala talaga, e,” he joked.
Elijah Canlas has long been vocal about social and political issues. In November 2025, he joined the Trillion Peso March at the EDSA People Power Monument to condemn alleged corruption in government flood control projects.
The actor also recently encouraged young Filipinos to register as voters and participate actively in the democratic process.
In a post on X, Elijah wrote: “Being apolitical is not the flex you think it is. That’s why I urge everyone — especially the youth to REGISTER TO VOTE.”
“Makapangyarihan ang bawat isa. Maliban sa pagiging karapatan, ito rin ay ating responsibilidad,” he added.
He also reminded the public that May 18 was the final day of voter registration ahead of the upcoming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, as well as the 2028 national elections.
“Hanggang May 18 nalang! Para sa pagbabagong ating hangad,” the actor said.
