Malaysia will host the 4th ASEAN Battery Technology Conference (ABTC 2026) from 19 to 21 August 2026 at the Mövenpick Hotel & Convention Centre KLIA, Sepang, placing the country at the centre of ASEAN’s next major conversation on battery industrialisation.

Organised by NMB (NanoMalaysia Berhad), ABTC 2026 will be held under the theme “Industrialising Battery Technologies: Strengthening ASEAN’s Battery Value Chain for Global Competitiveness”. The conference comes as demand for electric mobility, renewable energy storage and battery-enabled technologies continues to grow across ASEAN and beyond, creating new opportunities for the region to scale its role in the global battery economy.

Building on successful editions in Bali, Singapore and Phuket, ABTC has grown into a key regional platform for industry alignment, knowledge exchange and cross-border partnerships across Southeast Asia’s battery landscape. The 2026 edition will focus on the next phase of growth for ASEAN: strengthening manufacturing capabilities, improving safety and standards, enabling investment, developing more integrated supply chains, and supporting real-world deployment across mobility and energy storage applications.

Malaysia’s role as host is significant as the country continues to advance its focus on clean energy transition, advanced manufacturing and industrial innovation. Against this backdrop, ABTC 2026 will provide a regional platform to examine how ASEAN can move from battery adoption and technology development into industrial scale-up, investment readiness and commercial deployment.

Prof. (Adj.) Dr Rezal Khairi Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer of NMB Group, said, “We are honoured to host ABTC 2026 at a critical point in ASEAN’s battery journey. The region has strong potential across research, manufacturing, electric mobility, energy storage and circularity, but turning this potential into industrial capability requires closer alignment between governments, industry, researchers and investors. Through ABTC 2026, NMB is proud to welcome regional and international stakeholders to Malaysia as we work together to strengthen ASEAN’s battery industry and support its long-term competitiveness.”

Over three days, delegates can expect high-level discussions, technical deep dives and industry networking structured around three focus areas: Battery Co-Creation & Safety for Competitive Deployment in ASEAN, Battery Manufacturing Deep Dive, and Driving Application Integration and Market Enablement in ASEAN’s Battery. Sessions will examine key priorities including the ASEAN battery industrial landscape, battery safety, policy and market enablement, manufacturing scale-up, recycling and circularity and emerging battery technologies.

The programme will also draw insights from internationally recognised experts, including Professor Ying Shirley Meng of the University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory, and Professor Khalil Amine, Argonne Distinguished Fellow and Director of the Advanced Lithium Battery Technology Programme. Regional leaders from organisations such as SEDA, MARii, Pertamina, A*STAR and the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP), alongside other key industry stakeholders, are also expected to share perspectives on the opportunities and challenges shaping ASEAN’s battery industry.

Ts. Dr Nurul Akmaliah Bt Dzulkurnain, Chief Executive Officer of International Battery Centre (IBC), said, “ABTC has become an important platform because it allows ASEAN countries to look at the battery industry as a shared regional opportunity. Each market brings different strengths across policy, research, manufacturing, safety, financing and deployment. The 2026 edition in Malaysia will help sharpen these connections and identify how the region can work more effectively together to build a stronger and more competitive battery industry.”

ABTC 2026 will also witness the exchange of several strategic partnerships and agreements that reinforce Malaysia’s commitment to advancing the regional battery ecosystem. Among them are a collaboration between NanoMalaysia Berhad (NMB) and The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) on energy storage development and technology transfer; a Supply Agreement between GigaFactory Malaysia Sdn Bhd (GMSB) and Milan Utama for the prototyping of Compact Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS); a strategic collaboration between Infineon Technologies and Ampace; and a partnership between Green Tenaga and Go Rental Singapore. Collectively, these collaborations underscore the conference’s emphasis on translating dialogue into tangible partnerships that accelerate battery innovation, commercialisation and industry development across the region.

As ASEAN advances its clean energy transition and industrial development ambitions, ABTC 2026 aims to support practical discussions and partnerships that can strengthen the region’s position in the global battery economy. By connecting stakeholders across materials, cells, packs, system integration, recycling and end-use applications, the conference will help shape a more competitive, resilient and interconnected battery industry for ASEAN.

Join ABTC 2026 in Sepang, Malaysia and be part of the conversations shaping the future of battery innovation, industrialisation and sustainable energy across ASEAN. For more information on the programme agenda and registration, please visit ABTC’s official website.

The 4th ASEAN Battery Technology Conference is made possible through the support of its valued partners and sponsors, whose contributions continue to advance collaboration, innovation and industry development across ASEAN’s battery landscape. Platinum sponsors Ampace and Siemens, Gold sponsors Green Tenaga and KGC/MTI, Silver sponsors Neware and Arbin Instruments, Bronze sponsors UL Standards & Engagement (ULSE), Pyrogen and EVC.
