Award-winning actress Nadine Lustre expressed her enthusiasm about the possibility of finally sharing the screen with fellow Kapamilya superstar Kathryn Bernardo, saying she is more than willing to collaborate with one of the country’s most celebrated actresses.
During the media conference for her Viu original series ‘Love, Siargao’, Nadine said she welcomes the opportunity to work with Kathryn, whom she has already met several times through brand endorsements but has never collaborated with in an acting project.
The actress noted that today’s entertainment landscape has become more open, allowing artists to work with different co-stars instead of being limited to a single love team.
“It’s great na this time around, parang hindi na nakakahon yung mga artista sa loveteam or sa isang partner lang,” Nadine shared.
She added that working with different actors brings a fresh dynamic to every project.
“I guess what makes projects exciting is the people I work with. Para at least, this time around hindi na siya paulit-ulit. It’s always a different flavor and feels more collaborative.”
Because of this, Nadine said she would gladly accept the chance to star alongside Kathryn if the right material comes along.
The idea has already excited fans online, with many suggesting that the two award-winning actresses could headline a modern remake of the iconic LGBTQ+ classic ‘T-Bird at Ako’, originally topbilled by National Artists Nora Aunor and Vilma Santos.
Beyond the possibility of a Kathryn collaboration, Nadine also reflected on how much the Philippine entertainment industry has changed from the height of the love team era.
Speaking on Kylie Verzosa’s ‘Almost Honest’ podcast, Nadine admitted that being part of a hugely successful love team came with enormous pressure.
“It’s hard, because you don’t know what this is anymore. Like, you get to a point where you’re always together.”
She recalled how artists often felt restricted even in their personal lives because of fans’ expectations.
“You have this pressure na you can’t be really seen with another guy or kahit friend mo kasi you don’t wanna hurt the loveteam, the fans, you don’t wanna disappoint people.”
For Nadine, the industry’s gradual shift away from exclusive love teams has created more opportunities for actors to challenge themselves creatively and tell a wider range of stories.
