Although they had a ceremony in the Philippines in 2015, some still didn’t consider them as a married couple.
Liza Diño-Seguerra thanked President Rodrigo Duterte for supporting same-sex marriage. She posted her gratitude on her Facebook account. She also spoke on behalf of then-Aiza, now-Ice Suguerra. Liza and Ice also had a wedding in San Francisco, California last December 8, 2014.
The caption also read:
“Dear Tatay Digong,
Sana po magkatotoo ‘to. Isa po kami sa mga nakikiisa sa pagpush ng same sex marriage dito sa Pilipinas. Wow. Napakagandang pamasko naman nitong news na ‘to for our community. I don’t know what to feel right now but parang bigla akong nabuhayan at nagkaroon ng pag-asa na posibleng kilalanin ang karapatan namin bilang mag-asawa sa sarili naming bansa. Alam ko, iba-iba ang opinyon ng nga tao sa inyong mga paraan, but I’ve always believed that your heart is in the right place and you don’t want your people to feel oppressed. Even if you had a different opinion previously about same-sex marriage, kinailangan lang na mapakinggan ninyo ng personal yung perspective namin. Just let us know how Aiza and I can help. The couple had a symbolic ceremony in Batangas last January 8, 2015, because same-sex marriage remains unrecognized. They did the ceremony because Liza wanted to experience walking down the aisle with her parents. Liza admitted in one interview in 2015 that Metropolitan Church in Makati, a reputed spiritual home for the LGBT community, recommended it.
“I wanted to experience being walked down the aisle by my parents. Some people recommended the Metropolitan Church, but we never intended to make a statement out of this. We’re doing this just to express love for each other.”
In a recently published article of CNN Philippines, President Rodrigo Duterte declared he supports same-sex marriage. LGBT groups and advocates felt mixed reactions on the said declaration since he went against it on his Vietnam trip in March.

On the said article, President Duterte stated in an LGBT gathering in Davao City last December 17, Sunday:
“If that is the trend of the modern times, if that will add to your happiness, I am all for it.”
Then, he also added, “Ako, gusto ko same-sex marriage. Ang problema we have to change the law. But we can change the law.”
