  • The Commission on Higher Education has made Filipino a non-compulsory subject in college
  • Kakai Bautista reacts on the issue via social media
  • Netizens took to social media to slam the High Court’s decision and most of them made their point in Filipino

Filipina actress, host, singer, and comedian Catherine “Kakai” Bautista reacted to the news that Filipino and Panitikan or Philippine literature were no longer going to be college core subjects.

On Monday, Kakai posted a screenshot of an article on the CHED memorandum stating that Filipino and Panitikan were no longer compulsory college courses with a caption, “bakit po?

“Pero teka, nakakalungkot padin to. Dapat nga sana mas pag-aralan natin ang napakaGANDA nating KULTURA,” she added.

In November last year, Kakai had similar reactions on Twitter about the Supreme Court’s decision to validate the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) memorandum order on the removal of Filipino, Panitikan, and the Philippine Constitution from the college core subjects.

Meanwhile, netizens took to social media to slam the High Court’s decision and most of them made their point in Filipino.

In a press conference on Monday, Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino Chairman and National Artist Virgilio S. Almario stressed the Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED) Memorandum No. 20, series of 2013, and the recent Supreme Court (SC) decision affirming it does not ban the use of Filipino in college curriculum.
