Eddie Garcia’s partner of 33 years Lillibeth Romero does not want to blame anyone for the veteran actor’s tragic accident on the Tondo set of a GMA Network soap last Saturday afternoon, June 8.
The actor, who sustained a serious neck injury in the on-set accident, was first rushed to Mary Johnston Hospital and later transferred to Makati Medical Center (MCC).
Doctors debunked earlier reports that the patient was hospitalized due to a heart attack.
In an interview with The Philippine Star,Romero said she was not blaming anybody for the accident and was even thanking the people who lifted the unconscious Garcia from the pavement and carried him to a passing cab.
However, Romero said that (the GMA Network) management should have assigned a medic or a standby vehicle on the set. She was also saddened by the fact there was nobody “manning the set.”
“I was told that the accident happened on the third shoot of the same scene from another angle and they should have checked the condition of the street and if cable wires were scattered all around. It was an accident that could have been prevented,” Romero said.
Until now, Garcia remains in a very critical condition. “Mr. Garcia continues to be in critical condition. He is in comatose state with minimal spontaneous respiration,” the Makati Medical Center said in a statement.
On June 14, Garcia’s family signed a do-not-resuscitate (DNR) order, though the family’s spokesman and medico-legal Antonio Rebosa clarified that this does not mean they are withdrawing life support. Rather, it means that when the patient goes into cardiac arrest, they will not resuscitate him.
This was according to the Twitter post by MJ Malfori, entertainment anchor and correspondent of TV5.
“Pls be informed that the family of Mr. Eddie Garcia has not authorized nor has it consented to withdrawal of life support. They have however agreed to place him on DNR status. Thank you,” the female reporter wrote.

Dr. Tony Rebosa clarified that the family of Garcia has no plans of taking the actor off of life support.
“As of the moment, wala pang desisyon ang pamilya niya. Pero definitely, they don’t want to let go,” Rebosa said.
“Lilibeth [Romero] is, of course, putting a brave face but deep inside I know ngiti-ngiti, paiyak-iyak. Pero support ng family niya ay nandun.
“Let’s also pray for Lilibeth kasi talagang devastated siya” he said.
He also revealed that Garcia will face the condition of being a quadriplegic if ever he’ll regain consciousness.
“You are paralyzed from the neck down.
“Well, if he does survive ‘yun ‘yung magiging consequence niya kasi matindi talaga ‘yung naging pinsala sa neck niya.”
The Garcia family and some celebrities are still asking the public to continue praying for Garcia’s speedy recovery.
