Several Kapamilya stars joined the alternative SONA online protest and concert featuring different Filipino artists who are fed up with the government’s incompetence and abuses.
On Monday, #SONAgKAISA: Tinig ng Bayan was staged by different cause-oriented groups and concerned artists of the Philippines as their alternative SONA to Duterte’s 5th State of the Nation Address.
The concert protest was streamed live on Radyo Katipunan’s Facebook page at the same time Duterte was speaking at the Batasan Complex.
Some of the ABS-CBN Star Magic artists who spoke during the online protest included Julia Barretto, Gerald Anderson, and Maja Salvador.
The three mentioned the effects of the ABS-CBN shutdown on the Kapamilya employees who lost their jobs in the time of the pandemic. ABS-CBN’s franchise was denied by the 70 lawmakers allied with Duterte.
Other Kapamilya stars who were also present at the online protest were Cherry Pie Picache, Nikki Valdez, Cacai Bautista, and Gillian Vicencio.
Meanwhile, aside from the online protest messages given by the Star Magic artists, another highlight of the Monday’s #SONAgKAISA was the music video of “Di Niyo Ba Naririnig,” the Filipino version of the memorable Les Miserables tune “Do You Hear the People Sing” which was originally translated by theatre actor and composer Vincent de Jesus in 2017 in protest of the human rights abused by the Duterte administration under the war on drugs campaign.

Featured in the music video were Kapamilya celebrities Angel Locsin, Izza Calzado, Jodi Sta. Maria, Mylene Dizon, Ria Atayde, Agot Isidro, and Enchong Dee among others.
Several OPM icons were also present like Mitch Valdes, Jim Paredes and Buboy Garovillo of APO, Celeste Legazpi, Ebe Dancel, Johnoy Danao, and others.
