Actress Kris Bernal is no longer a Kapuso after she officially transferred to theTV5 network and is set to be the lead actress in the Kapatid Network’s weekly series Ate Ng Ate Ko.

She will star along with Isabelle de Leon, Joem Bascon, and Jake Cuenca.

Kris came to prominence after winning the fourth season of the reality show StarStruck. After that stint, she then worked with several hit GMA programs such as Little Nanay, Asawa Ko Karibal Ko, and Hanggang sa Dulo ng Buhay Ko.

Bernal’s latest series with TV5 will premiere on November 23. She plays the role of an ‘Ate’ (sister) in the series that will air Mondays at 9:30 pm.

On Monday, November 16, the official Instagram account of TV5 posted a teaser about the said series using the hashtags #AteNgAteKoTV5 and #TV5BiggerBetterBERMonths.

“Who’s excited na mapanood si Kris Bernal sa Ate ng Ate Ko? 😍”

Ate ng Ate Ko will be Bernal’s first regular project after the GMA Network did not renew her contract when it ended amid the pandemic. The Kapuso network also did not give her any projects due to the difficulty in the production of shows because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 31-year actress previously appeared in TV5’s Chika Besh where she revealed that she became depressed after her contract with GMA was not renewed.

“Nagkaroon ako ng anxiety, lalo na noong malaman ko na wala na akong contract. Siyempre, hindi ko na ipinakita sa social media iyon,” she said.

She explained that she questioned her worth and ability as an actress when GMA didn’t renew her contract.

“May questions din ako na hindi kaya ayaw na ako ng network ko? May ganoon. Hindi kaya hindi na nila ako bibigyan ng show kaya wala na akong contract? May mga ganoon na akong questions in mind,” Bernal said.

She also admitted that she became insecure with herself and began to ask herself whether people would still want her and support her career.

“May mga insecurities din ako. Saka, yun nga, nasa point ako na parang, ‘Sino ang may gusto sa akin? May sumusuporta pa ba sa akin? May questions din ako na, ‘Hindi kaya ayaw na ako ng network ko?’ May ganun,” she explained.

Kris Bernal had been with GMA Network since 2006. She was paired up with Aljur Abrenica, dubbed as ‘AlKris’, where they did several shows together such as Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin? (2009), All My Life (2009), The Last Prince (2010), Coffee Prince (2012), and Prinsesa ng Buhay Ko (2013).

She then top-billed GMA’s hit afternoon series Impostora (2017-18) where she had a dual role.
