Civil case filed against licensed doctors and a hospital by a cancer patient

In “Pinoy True Stories: Demandahan” this Thursday (June 27), broadcast journalist Anthony Taberna looks into a civil case filed against licensed doctors and a hospital by a cancer patient.

In the episode, Anthony reviews the complaint of “Nida”who was suffering from sigmoid colon cancer, a type of cancer that affects the last part of the colon that connects the descending colon to the rectum. Nida underwent two types of surgery for treatment. Though she was in critical condition, her doctor announced that the operation was a success.

After being discharged from the hospital two weeks later, Nida felt excruciating pain in her anal region. She complained about this to her doctor who assured her that the pain was part of the recovery process. When the pain did not go away, Nida and her husband “Rey” decided to go abroad to seek the opinion of other doctors. However, the couple returned to the Philippines without any new finding.

It was discovered later that the persistent pain was caused by two rotting gauzes that were left inside Nida’s body. This prompted Nida and Rey to file a malpractice case against the doctors and the hospital. This case reached the Supreme Court. Did Nida survive the consequences of the operation? Was there really negligence on the part of the hospital and the doctors?

Meanwhile, Maan Macapagal and Dominic Almelor revisit in “Pinoy Stories: Saklolo” tomorrow (June 26) the story of Danilo, who patiently took care of his mentally-ill brother “Marlon.” Danilo, however, eventually got sick. How will Danilo be able to look after his brother when he now has to take care of himself?

Watch “Saklolo” tomorrow (June 26) and “Demandahan” this Thursday (June 27), 4:45 PM on ABS-CBN Kapamilya Gold
