Actor Joshua Garcia on Tuesday, August 8, revealed that the choice to do a topless scene in the upcoming ABS-CBN TV series Darna, was based on his age at 24.
Previously, Garcia became a hot topic on social media after he appeared half-naked during the trailer. Moreover, pictures of his went on to become memes.
In the series’ press conference that included LionhearTV along with select members of the press, the actor explained, “Na-convice ako kasi siyempre nasa tamang edad na rin ako and hindi naman siya sobrang laswa ‘di ba? Topless lang naman.”
It gave him a challenge, especially with his body not in a well-sculpted form.
What the actor did was workout a little due to him being “hindi ako sanay talaga na nagbubuhat eh.”
Furthermore, Garcia also pushed outside his comfort zone. He figured it would be better to do things he’s uncomfortable with.
“So ‘yun, kaunting preparation and sabi ko naman, ‘yun nga, nasa tamang edad naman na ako, why not? Parang ano rin kasi eh, labas na rin siya sa comfort zone ko. So sabi ko, why not, gawin natin.”
He then teased that the trailer was just the start. According to him, there were plenty of scenes of him being topless.
“And then ‘yun, hanggang sa nangyari na. Then pagkatapos noong isang eksena, sa mga susunod na araw, puro hubad na rin ang mga eksena ko, hahaha!”
Meanwhile, he will be working again with veteran director Chito Roño. They did the 2020 thriller movie Ang Mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan.
Garcia said that he loves Roño both as a director and a friend.
“Kasi kapag nagtatrabaho siya, sobrang focused siya sa work niya. As in detalyado at kailangang alam niya talaga lahat kung anong mangyayari bago niya kunan ang eksena.
“Bilang kaibigan, sobrang cool lang niya. Sumasabay siya sa amin nina (Young) JV, nina LA (Santos). Sobrang cool lang iyan ni Direk Chito. As in sasabayan niya lahat nang trip mo. Kaya sobrang thankful ko na nakatrabaho ko siya.”
Darna, the TV Series is led by Jane de Leon together with Garcia, Janella Salvador, and Zaijian Jaranilla. It will begin its pilot episode on August 15, replacing FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.
