Jeric Raval recalls returning to television via an ABS-CBN series and says he regretted refusing to accept supporting roles

The ‘90s action star said debuted in a ‘teleserye’ via the 2016 Kapamilya dramedy, ‘We Will Survive’.

Jeric Raval has learned to adapt to the new landscape of Philippine entertainment; acting, where he once thrived, is no longer the trend. The ‘90s icon has learned to get along with current trends, which could be the reason why he accepted ABS-CBN’s offer to star in a TV series for the first time, in 2016.

During the press conference of his upcoming horror film, Pinoy Ghost Tales, last December 9, the action star had some reminiscing about his flourishing movie career in the ‘90s. He recalled that when the action genre and the whole movie industry were struggling in the early 2000s, he started receiving offers to star in non-action projects, but in supporting roles. He admitted that he refused to accept most of them. He noted that he somewhat regretted his decision.

Raval narrated, “Way back 2003, 2004…namatay ang movie industry; lahat ng action stars, garahe. So andaming offer—umuulan ng offer, pero supporting roles. Tinatanggihan ko lahat ‘yun. Eh tumakbo ‘yung sampung taon. Sabi ko, andami kong pinalampas na supporting roles. Sayang naman ‘yung kita, di naman ako milyonaryo.”

The action star then recalled that an offer from ABS-CBN came which he accepted paving the way for more projects.  His last TV project is notably ABS-CBN’s action drama series, The Iron Heart, starring Richard Gutierrez.

Raval stated that there is a significant difference between playing a supporting part in a drama series and acting as the lead in such ventures. He did it nonetheless, just for a “change”.

Jeric Raval headlines LGM Grand Entertainment and LMK Productions’ horror trilogy, Pinoy Ghost Tales, which also stars his two children, AJ Raval and JK Raval. The film is written by screenwriter, Lawrence Nicodemus, and directed by directors, Afi Africa, Jojo Nadela, and John Isaac Natividad.
