The actor-director John ‘Sweet’ Lapus responded to a netizen’s statement on artists who become better at their craft after switching networks.
Comedian-actor and director Lapus seemingly took a swipe at stars who leave their home network while they have ongoing projects.
Yesterday, February 3, he engaged the fans of the primetime show Dirty Linen. Also a fan of the sensational ABS-CBN show, Lapus got particularly drawn to a tweet made by one of the show’s fans, who commented about Janine Gutierrez’s improved acting skills.
“Bakit ang artista na galing GMA gumagaling at mas lalo nagniningngin pag lumipat sa ABS?
“Pero ang artista na galing ABS parang nawawala ang ningning pag lumipat sa GMA?,” tweeted Macoy, who wondered why GMA stars who transferred to ABS-CBN shined, while those who left ABS-CBN and transferred to GMA dimmed their sparks.

Lapus, who got the chance to work in various networks, including ABS-CBN and GMA, expressed his opposition, arguing Macoy’s observation is not always true.

He also responded to a netizen who expressed her observation about actors who have already established themselves as credible actors, before shifting networks.

As a reply, Lapus noted that artists whose projects ran out can politely ask their home network’s management, to allow them to accept projects outside the company, or transfer to other TV networks.

These tweets made by Lapus made netizens speculate, with names like Bea Alonzo and Boy Abunda “being dropped” as possible personalities to whom his tweets may allude to.
A long-time Star Magic talent, Lapus is one of the very local artists who have been able to work in both ABS-CBN and GMA Network.
