In Ogie Diaz’s YouTube channel streamed last August 5, Kapamilya actor Markus Paterson candidly discussed the reasons behind his breakup with fellow actress Janella Salvador.
The couple’s relationship gradually deteriorated after their return to the Philippines, facing the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and the demands of their respective careers.
During the interview with Ogie Diaz, Markus admitted that their relationship was “perfect” when they were still in the United Kingdom. However, upon their return to the Philippines, they had to confront various realities, including the need for a nanny and the emergence of numerous problems. These factors eventually took a toll on their romance, leading to communication breakdown and mutual decision to take a break from their relationship.
Markus shared, “It simply wasn’t perfect, actually perfect nu’ng nasa UK pa kami, pero nu’ng bumalik na kami dito sa Pilipinas parang COVID nu’ng time na ‘yun ay delikado pero kailangan na naming mag-work. A lot of realities set in na kailangan pala namin ng yaya and maraming problem, it came to a point na we’re not talking anymore, so, we decided to take a break and see what happens (next).”
Addressing his own shortcomings in the relationship, Markus confessed that one of Janella’s dislikes was his tendency to walk away when they couldn’t reach an agreement. “Yeah, ganu’n ako at ‘yan ang pinaka-hate ni Jea (palayaw ni Janella) saka duwag din ako ayaw kong humarap sa problema at ‘yan ang ayaw kong maulit sa next (girlfriend ko),” he explained.
Despite their decision to part ways romantically, Markus emphasized that he and Janella remain good friends and are committed to co-parenting their son, Jude, in a healthy and harmonious manner.
When asked about the possibility of rekindling their romance, Markus shared that they don’t talk about their relationship when communicating but instead focus on their son, Jude. He stated, “Hindi naman kami nag-uusap tungkol sa amin puro tungkol naman kay Jude, araw-araw naman kaming magkausap but tungkol kay Jude.”
Presently, Markus is taking time to focus on himself and address his personal flaws and imperfections. He expressed gratitude towards Janella for teaching him the value of unconditional love and praised her kindness, especially in sharing parenting responsibilities with Jude. Whenever Janella spends time with Jude, she updates Markus by uploading videos to keep him in the loop, and Markus reciprocates by doing the same.
At this juncture in his life, Markus finds joy in being a responsible father to Jude and remains content with the present circumstances.
