Quezon City Councilor and acclaimed actor Alfred Vargas, alongside Piolo Pascual, clinched the Best Actor award at the prestigious 72nd FAMAS Awards for his outstanding performance in the film ‘Pieta.’
Buoyed by this success, Vargas now sets his sights on venturing into film production, aiming to co-produce projects where he may not necessarily feature as an actor.
In a recent thanksgiving luncheon with the entertainment media, Vargas candidly shared the challenges of following up the critically acclaimed ‘Pieta.’
“Ang hirap pumili after Pieta. Later on I might co-produce movies na ‘di ako part of. Sa likod din muna at the same time, isipin ko muna ano ang next acting piece na gagawin natin,” Vargas revealed.
The accomplished actor also emphasized his contentment with his planned workload for 2024, indicating a deliberate pace with one movie per year to allow ample time for other professional pursuits.
Currently, Alfred Vargas is actively engaged in organizing theater screenings for ‘Pieta,’ slated to debut exclusively at SM Cinemas starting July. Additionally, he is gearing up for his role in GMA Network’s upcoming series titled ‘Forever Young,’ under the joint direction of Rechie del Carmen and Gil Tejada.
“Forever Young” casts Vargas alongside award-winning child actor Euwenn Mikael, portraying a 25-year-old character who ceases to age. The series boasts an ensemble cast including Michael de Mesa, Eula Valdez, Rafael Rosell, Althea Ablan, and the return of Kapuso actress Nadine Samonte.
Reflecting on his tie with Piolo Pascual for the FAMAS Best Actor accolade, Vargas expressed deep admiration for Pascual’s career and talent. “I’m honored to share this recognition with Piolo. Since my days at Talent Center, I’ve always looked up to him as an idol because of his exceptional acting skills,” Vargas remarked.
Despite being taken aback when his name was called at the awards ceremony, Vargas remained grounded and addressed speculations surrounding his win. “I was surprised. Before they announced my name, I was already contemplating what caption to post on Facebook congratulating the winner. However, until the announcement is made, anything can happen,” he shared.

Dismissing any insinuations about his win being purchased, Vargas urged the public to watch “Pieta” to appreciate the dedication and effort behind his performance. “This trophy is significant to me. Every inch and gram of it symbolizes hard work and dedication. I am immensely proud,” Vargas proudly declared.
