Kapuso actress Yasmien Kurdi delivered an inspiring message for women as the Philippines celebrates Women’s Month, encouraging them to stand up for their rights and speak out against injustice.
In a recent Instagram post, Kurdi shared a glimpse of her journey as a law student at Arellano University, where she is currently pursuing her law degree. She also proudly revealed that she had just completed her first exam of the semester, which focused on gender sensitivity and women’s rights.
Kurdi said the subject is among her favorites in law school.
“One of my favorite subjects in law school is Gender Sensitivity and Laws on Women and Children’s Rights and I also submitted my reaction paper on the Supreme Court’s Legal Feminism in Philippine Gender Jurisprudence today.”
She emphasized that legal feminism in Philippine jurisprudence reflects the real-life struggles of Filipino women.
“Legal feminism in Philippine jurisprudence reflects the lived realities of Filipinas, our struggles through the years, the voices that were once silenced, and our continuing fight for dignity and equality.”
In her post, Kurdi highlighted several Philippine laws that safeguard women’s rights, including: Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act (RA 9262), Magna Carta of Women (RA 9710), Safe Spaces Act (RA 11313) and Anti-Sexual Harassment Act (RA 7877).
According to the actress, justice is not only defined by written laws but also by the courage and stories of women fighting for equality.
“Sana ngayong Buwan ng Kababaihan, magsilbing itong paalala sa lahat na ang hustisya ay hindi lamang nakasulat sa mga batas. Ito ay nabubuhay sa mga kwento, katatagan, at tapang ng kababaihan saanman sa mundo.”
Kurdi urged women to challenge systems that limit their voice and identity.
“Women, please do continue to challenge systems. Do not let others dictate who you should be or how you should live. Set your boundaries, know your rights, break the silence, and claim the equality we deserve.”
She ended her message with a bold declaration celebrating womanhood.
“BABAE AKO! Bakit? May problema ba? HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S MONTH!”
Outside show business, Kurdi has continued to pursue different passions. In 2024, she completed a Part-Time Certificate Program in Pastry and Bakery Arts at the Academy of Pastry and Culinary Arts.
She also ventured into children’s literature, collaborating with broadcast journalist Nelson Canlas on the book ‘Si Jose at ang Mahiwagang Taguri,’ which aims to raise awareness about bullying among young readers.
