TV Ratings (Nov. 14-17): “Luna Mystika” weaves magic on its pilot episode

Heart Evangelista can now heave a sigh of relief because her first solo project in GMA-7, Luna Mystika, got a favorable response from the viewers. The new Kapuso fantaserye got an amazing 38.9 percent on its pilot episode last night, November 17, based on the overnight ratings conducted by AGB Nielsen Philippines among Mega Manila households.

Although considered very high for a pilot episode, Luna Mystika’s rating only ranked second behind Gagambino’s 39.3 percent—which is the highest rating so far for Dennis Trillo’s fantaserye. Also, Heart’s new show fell a little bit short of GMA-7 SVP for Entertainment TV Ms. Wilma Galvante’s target of 40-plus rating. But, all things considered, Luna Mystika made a very impressive debut.

Luna Mystika’s first episode, which ran slightly over an hour, was pitted against two ABS-CBN shows: Anne Curtis’s Dyosa (No. 10) and Bea Alonzo’s I Love Betty La Fea (No. 8). In essence, Heart was able to beat her two former Kapamilya co-stars.

Occupying the rest of the Top 10 were La Lola (No. 3), Survivor Philippines (No. 4), 24 Oras (No. 5), TV Patrol World (No. 6), Pinoy Fear Factor (No. 7), and Ripley’s Believe It Or Not (No. 9).

Luna Mystika took over the timeslot of Codename: Asero, which ended its run last Friday, November 14. It ranked second with 32.5 percent; behind Gagambino’s 32.6 percent. Incidentally, Asero was Heart’s first project with GMA-7, where she was paired with Richard Gutierrez.

Coming in third was Survivor Philippines with 32.2 percent; followed by La Lola (30.8 percent) and 24 Oras (28.2 percent) to complete the Top 5.

Bubble Gang came in sixth place with 24.8 percent, Dyosa was in seventh with 24.4 percent; TV Patrol World and Pinoy Fear Factor tied at No. 8 with identical 23.4 percent.

It was followed by I Love Betty La Fea with 22.7 percent and Family Feud with 21.9 percent.

In the daytime race, Eat Bulaga! topped the list last Friday and Monday, while Una Kang Naging Akin was also consistent in second place.

Saan Darating ang Umaga, Daisy Siete, and Wowowee occupied the third to fifth spots.

Colombian telenovela El Cuerpo del Deseo, shown in ABS-CBN, came to an end last Friday at No. 8 with 14.8 percent. It was replaced by another Colombian soap, La Traicion, which debuted yesterday at No. 9 with 10.9 percent. Both soaps feature Colombian hunk Mario Cimarro.

WEEKEND RATINGS. Eat Bulaga!, as expected, also topped the daytime race last Saturday, November 15, with 22.9 percent. It was followed by Pinoy Records (22.3 percent), The Singing Bee (20.2 percent), Wish Ko Lang (19.3 percent), and Wowowee (15.3 percent) to complete the Top 5.

Occupying the rest of the Top 10 were The Making of One True Love, Startalk, Cinema FPJ, Pilipinas Game KNB?, and Entertainment Live.

Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho ruled the primetime race with 30.8 percent.

Janno Gibbs’s Kakasa Ka Ba Sa Grade 5? made a successful comeback with 27 percent, which is good for No. 2. This educational game show replaced the recently-concluded Celebrity Duets Season 2.

Coming in third was Bitoy’s Funniest Videos with 26.7 percent; followed by Maalaala Mo Kaya with 24.6 percent and Imbestigador with 24.1 percent.

The rest of the Top 10 were Tiny Tony, Banana Split, XXX, Nuts Entertainment, and Sine Totoo.

Finally, SOP was the most-watched daytime program last Sunday, November 16, with 15.3 percent. Last week’s No. 1, Showbiz Central, slipped to second place with 14.3 percent.

ASAP ’08 came in third place with 14.2 percent; followed by Your Song (13.3 percent) and Takeshi’s Castle (13.2 percent).

Finally, All Star K beat all other programs to top the primetime race with 26.1 percent. It was followed by Mel & Joey (25.6 percent), Rated K (23.7 percent), Tok! Tok! Tok! Isang Milyon Pasok (21.3 percent), and Kap’s Amazing Stories (20.8 percent).
