Tina Monzon-Palma stands up for illegitimate children’s rights

In the Philippines, there are more than 600,000 illegitimate children, many of whom are not aware of their rights.

Broadcast journalist Tina Monzon-Palma will address this issue as she continues to fight for the protection of abused children on Thursday (Feb 9) on “Krusada”.

Tina sympathizes with non-marital children. “It is painful for a child to learn that he or she is illegitimate. What makes it even harder for them is the judgmental gaze thrown at them by society,” she said.

Tina will discuss the rights of such children, including the scope of these rights and the ways in which they may be fought for.

To illustrate these, she will be imparting the story of two mothers who relentlessly fight for the allotment and inheritance of their non-marital children.

Witness the story of Marlene, who started her fight in 1995 for the recognition and support of her child from the father, and Othella, who is only about to start her battle for the inheritance of her seven children.

The law recognizes two types of children: the legal and the illegitimate. But regardless of whether they were born to married parents or out of wedlock, they all have rights that need to be honored by their parents.

Listen, take part and be one with Tina’s crusade for children because it takes more than words to make a stand. Watch “Krusada” on Thursday (Jan 19) after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN, or earlier on DZMM TeleRadyo (SkyCable Channel 26), 9:15 p.m.
