Charo Santos-Concio : Heroic tales make up Philippine history

ABS-CBN president and COO Charo Santos-Concio underscored the role of Filipino audiences in shaping the nation’s history at the ABS-CBN Philippine Independence Day flag-raising ceremony dubbed as “Bayang Malaya, Tayo Na” last Tuesday (June 12).

Concio said ABS-CBN’s commitment to continually bring premium content to its viewers is inspired by Filipinos’ impressive traits as a people and true stories of heroism, including stories of struggle, idealism, and helping others in times of tragedy.

“We still have a long way to go. ABS-CBN will always be there to sympathize, cheer, and keep an eye on you. We have a colorful and noble history because of all your extraordinary tales,” Concio said.

She also described working at ABS-CBN as a privilege because it entails having the opportunity to chronicle stories of Filipino heroism. She said, “It’s not exhausting to work for something that benefits the nation.”

The event, which was hosted by “TV Patrol” anchors Noli De Castro, Korina Sanchez, and Ted Failon, marked ABS-CBN’s tradition of being the only TV network that holds an annual flag-raising ceremony in commemoration of the Philippine independence.

ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs launched its year-long election campaign dubbed as “Bayan Mo, iPatrol Mo: Tayo Na” at the flag-raising ceremony aimed at empowering citizens to come, work together, and be responsible in preparation for the 2013 midterm polls.

Also unveiled on Tuesday was TV Patrol’s “Beinte Singko Para sa Kabayan Ko” fundraising project, and the grand music video for ABS-CBN’s Global Independence Day campaign titled “Tayo ang Pilipino, Angat sa Mundo.”

The flag-raising ceremony, meanwhile, saw the debut of ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Maestro Gerard Salonga, performances from band Aegis, Raimund Marasigan, Pochoy Labog, and Nicole Asencio of General Luna, and guest appearance from the Philippine Azkals football team.
