Virgie Malipol of Amira’s Buco Tart Haus shares her way to success

How did a farmer’s daughter climb her way to success and put up one of the most popular specialty food products stores in Tagaytay?

Tomorrow (Aug 21) in “My Puhunan,” broadcast journalist Karen Davila shows that it’s possible as long as one has the determination to succeed and guts to take risks.

Virgie Malipol is the woman behind the success of Amira’s Buco Tart Haus. In 1988, Virgie wanted to contribute to the family’s finances and started selling her home-cooked donuts on streets. She soon started making and selling ensaymada, sponge cakes, and other baked goodies.

It was in 2003 when Virgie finally put up her own store in Tagaytay, known as Amira’s Buco Tart Haus, which has buco tart as its most well-known product. In one day, the store produces over 8,000 pieces of buco tarts.

In “My Puhunan,” Virgie teaches baking techniques and sales tips to widowed businesswoman Regina, whose bakery business failed. Regina is now struggling to recover and get her business back on track.

Karen also serves up a dose of inspiration as she features the story of 22-year-old Maricel Apatan, one of the pastry chefs at the prestigious Esda Shangri-la Hotel in Manila. Maricel, who has no hands, struggled with her disability but didn’t let it hinder her to achieve her goals.

Watch “My Puhunan” tomorrow (Aug 21), 4:15 PM on ABS-CBN. For updates, follow @mypuhunan on Twitter or visit www.facebook.com/MyPuhunan.
