Sagip Kapamilya to the rescue of evacuees in Cotabato

ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc.’s (ALKFI) Sagip Kapamilya has been busy at work in Cotabato since fighting escalated between forces of the government and the rebel Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF).

According to a report from Adroel Alcober, Regional Network Group Officer handling the relief efforts, Sagip Kapamilya has served an estimated 10% of the total evacuees and families affected by the fighting that are situated at the Dapiawan Elementary school at Dapiawan, Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Maguindanao.

As of March 16, 2015 from the data of the ARMM HEART Operation Center, there are already 24,714 families or 123,537 persons who have been displaced due to the ongoing campaign of the military. As of writing, the numbers of internally displaced persons are increasing as the fighting continues.

Sagip Kapamilya has enacted Psycho-social activities to 2,405 children (5 evacuation centers), relief pack distribution to 1,600 families (3 evacuation centers), showing different movies to 1,855 children (in 4 evacuation centers), feeding more than 2,180 children & adults with arroz caldo (5 evacuation centers), and serving mineral water (amount to 6 liters) to 128 Pregnant Women/with babies (3 evacuation centers).

The Kapamilya network is asking for donations of the basic needs to help more of the displaced by the fighting in Mindanao. Food, water, and clothing are the foremost concerns especially for the children. Interested parties may send to ALKFI’s bank accounts in BPI, BDO and Unionbank for monetary donations. For donations in kind, drop off point will be the Sagip Kapamilya Warehouse at #13 Examiner St. West Triangle, Quezon City.
