Sexy actress Ellen Adarna and Kapamilya actor John Lloyd Cruz earned social media fanfare during the second quarter of the year. They started with hanging out from events, to secretly dating, traveling, and meeting with parents. Between those times, the Filipino netizens bombarded them with a lot of comments, both good and bad.
Ellen joined “Home Sweetie Home,” John Lloyd and Toni Gonzaga’s ABS-CBN rom-com show, in early 2017. Since then, the press kept an eye on them as suspicions arise with them as co-stars, up to their lives behind the spotlight. They were also seen in Shangrila hotel lobby last February.
The famous Cebu escapade
The moment the two gained most reaction from the public was their beach vacation in Cebu with Ellen’s friends and relatives. Photos, Instagram stories, and videos started surfacing from Ellen’s account.
Despite all these, the two remained tight-lipped about their real status.
Intense interest among social media users started emerging with each post. Some say it’s unbecoming for two people to look so intimate with each other without having a label while others believe what they have is just a “fling.”

Regardless, Ellen and JLC are both adults. As widely-open a life of a celebrity might be, we have no say about their preferences at the end of the day. Our job as fans or viewers only entitle us to support and react but not pound a principle among these personalities. They may seem carefree -even reckless in the eyes, their career or relationship path should be a product of their own decisions.
I personally admire Ellen for keeping this aspect of her life as private as she wants it to be without being pretentious. I mean, look at her. She might be drowning in hurtful comments from people both close and not, but she’s resilient. None of those words hindered her from expressing what she wants on social media, whether it’s her late-night drinking and night outs or sweet moments with JLC.
I think the key to being a successful celebrity is to sometimes master the art of “not giving a f*ck.” As long as they do their job well, these stars have rights to do whatever, even with the risk of losing supporters. After all, people see what they want to see. This doesn’t mean that we should conform to it, especially when it affects our personal lives and decisions.
