Dina Bonnevie has been in the showbiz industry for thirty years. So, it may not be a surprise when many young actors and actresses run to her for advice.
However, not many young actors remain respectful towards the experienced actress. She recalled how she confronted a bratty young actress.
In an interview with PEP.ph, Dina acknowledged that many young celebrities reach the peak of their career too quick. She also shared the secret in order to stay in the industry for a long time.
“Iyon na nga ang sinasabi ko, para magtagal kayo sa industriya, number one, you have to love what you do. You have to really appreciate that gift, treasure it, keep it, and talagang ano… be professional. Kasi, kung hindi ka pa nga sikat, e, kung umasta ka, akala mo ikaw na yung reyna ng buong taping, teka lang… Minsan, nakakarinig ka ng, ‘Bakit yung damit ko, nya-nya-nya?’ Hindi nga kami naggaganyan…”
Dina recalled how she slammed a bratty young actress and gave the young one hell. She remarked that the young star isn’t in the ABS-CBN’s drama series, The Blood Sisters. Dina also shared the way she called out the said actress and stated the reason behind calling out the said actress.
“Talagang… I gave her hell. Talagang sinabihan ko siya, ‘Who do you think you are? Are you famous? Who are you? What name have you made? Have you carved your name in stone in showbiz? Your call is at 9 o’clock and you come down from your van at 12 o’clock na naka-pajama? Really?’ Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Hindi pa ipinapanganak ang mambabastos sa akin. If you want to continue taping this soap like this, do it yourself.’ E, yung leading man ko dun, ganun din, ‘Yeah, tell her! Grabe na! Grabe na!’”
Dina declined on naming the said actress.
“Di ko na ine-name names pero talagang…”
The actress isn’t even famous anymore. Dina remarked that the actress didn’t even make it that big. She recalled that the actress would even go out for lunch and she would only come back on set after three hours. Her leading man would even encourage her to call out the said actress.
“Ngayon, hindi. Sa tingin ko, hindi. Andiyan lang siya… She didn’t really like… make it like… big. E, kasi nga, attitude, e! Yung parang… grabe, huh, parang feeling mo, ikaw na ang reyna dito, ganun-ganun. Pero lahat kami, kasi, mga senior stars kami noon, talagang pinaghihintay niya kami lagi. Aalis siya pag lunch time, babalik siya, alas-tres na. Sabi ko, ‘Hello?’ Tapos, kami, hintay kami nang hintay. Hanggang sabi na ng leading man ko, ‘Tell her na, Miss D! Come on, you know! Let’s not allow her ganyan-ganyan.’ I’m so tired.”
The young actress even threatened that she would complain to her mom. However, Dina just remarked that she would fight her mother, too. Another supporting actress even outshined the bratty one.
“Pagdating na pagdating niya, ang sabi niya sa akin, ‘Where are you going, Tita?’ Sabi ko, ‘We’re going to leave. What did you think, we were born to wait for you? Excuse me, who do you think you are?’ Sabi ko, ‘Are you somebody? Excuse me. You haven’t made a mark. Have you proven yourself at least in acting? You can’t even cry.’ Isusumbong daw niya ako sa nanay niya. Sabi ko, ‘Sige, papuntahin mo dito. Magsu-showdown kami dito ng nanay mo.’ Ayun, sa kagaganyan niya, naungusan pa siya ng isang supporting actress sa soap na ‘yon!”
