Alden Richards is protective of Victor Magtanggol. Some netizens slammed the series for being a copycat of Marvel’s Thor. Marvel also borrowed their Thor character from Norse mythology. Meanwhile, Victor Magtanggol‘s story starts where the said mythology ends.
Public domain
Alden declared that this series is an original concept.
“Hindi po kami copycat kasi original concept po ito ng Pinoy.”
Alden added that Norse mythology is public domain. He, however, noted that he too would have a misconception of the said series if he was just a regular viewer.
“And ang Norse mythology po is a public domain. Siguro kung hindi po ako yung gumaganap bilang Victor Magtanggol, as a regular viewer, magkakaroon din po ako ng misconception na ganun.”
Alden continued that anyone can make stories out of mythology that is under public domain. He pointed out that people are just used to seeing Thor‘s image on the big-screen.
“Pero ito po, kaya po ipinapaliwanag po natin sa lahat na public domain po ang Norse mythology, anyone can create stories out of the mythology kasi wala pong nagmamay-ari sa kanya. Nakasanayan lang po talaga siguro natin yung mga napanood nating pelikula na iyon yung naging image nung Thor. So ito po talaga is really based on myth and may pinanggalingan po siya.”
Comparison between Victor Magtanggol and Thor
Alden compared Victor Magtanggol and Thor and explained what makes the said Kapuso prime time series an original concept by Filipinos.
“Kasi from costume… Actually, hindi po kami nanghingi ng tulong with any foreign entity. It’s all originally conceptualized, originally made ng mga Pinoy, by Filipinos. So iyon po yung pinaka-edge nito and the story will revolve around…”
Alden shared he would transform into the superhero character when he takes hold of Thor’s hammer Mjolnir.
“…So iyon na kasi ang ginagawa ni Victor Magtanggol as a character, superhero na siya sa ganung aspeto. Magugulat lang siya na yung pagiging superhero niya magma-materialize pag nakuha na niya yung martilyo.”
