  • Gina Lopez puts spotlight on Yolanda Survivors on ‘G Diaries’
  • “Pagka’t Nariyan Ka” music video with Sam Mangubat to be launched

Five years after Typhoon Yolanda, Gina Lopez will feature the different areas ravaged by the storm surge and show how the people survived and are moving forward on the special episode of “G Diaries” this Sunday (November 25) on ABS-CBN with the title “Mga Kwento ng Pagbangon.”

Gina will take viewers to Eastern Samar, Samar, Northern Palawan, and Panay Islands, which were heavily damaged after the typhoon, and where ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc. (ALKFI) – Operation Sagip focused its relief and rehabilitation efforts, utilizing the P1 Billion worth of donations from different companies, organizations, and individuals from all over the world. The amount raised was strategically spent on relief operations, education and infrastructure, livelihood and health, logistics and support services and, monitoring and evaluation for the benefit of Yolanda survivors.

They include weaver Leonila Gacutno from Basey, Samar, Sohoton caves kayaking guide Estelita Alibado, and surfer Adelardo Pompa of Daguitan from the Sabang Daguitan Surf Camp in Leyte. Students Eldon Banotan, Lorence Segarino, and Jamela Bancilian also shared how studying became more enjoyable now they have better, sturdier and more conducive classrooms in Busuanga, Palawan. Another beautiful story worth telling is Susan Austero, a woman who achieved her dreams of working in the food industry thanks to new educational programs.

Apart from them, also telling their stories of hope and resilience are Filipinos in these areas who have risen up to help their communities recover from the disaster they went through. They include midwife Fe Bantigue of Jiabong, Samar who walked hours daily to take care of pregnant women and called attention to the need for more health centers, and health and sanitation officer Imelda Eusebio of Dagami, Leyte who worked to help provide clean and accessible water to her community.

They are all involved in projects and interventions initiated by ALKFI based on the bigger master plan set by the Office of the Presidential Assistant Rehabilitation and Recovery (OPARR) to restore what was damaged and to further improve the areas and the lives of people there before they were affected by the calamity.

ABS-CBN Corporate Services Group 1 head Mark Nepomuceno and ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management head Robert Labayen will also share how the network mobilized its people and encouraged each citizen to take part in helping the survivors of the storm surge.

Meanwhile, fans of “Tawag ng Tanghalan” finalist and now Star Music artist Sam Mangubat will also catch their favorite singer in the launch of the music video of “Pagka’t Nariyan K”a of Star Music, composed by Trina Belamide and Zion Aquino and produced by Jonathan Manalo. The video is in commemoration of the fifth year of Typhoon Yolanda.

Don’t miss the special Yolanda episode of “G Diaries” on Sunday (November 25), 10:15am on ABS-CBN before “ASAP Natin ‘To.” Watch the replay on Metro channel on Saturday (December 1) at 3 pm and Sunday (December 2) at 6 pm and on ANC on Saturday (December 1) at 9:30 am.
