Mariel de Leon reveals why she doesn’t want to be called a ‘beauty queen’

  • Mariel de Leon doesn’t want to be called a beauty queen.
  • She noted that women are not just the title that society chose to give them.
  • She, however, remained thankful for the opportunities that her title gave her.

Mariel de Leon is the Miss International Philippines 2017. The title, however, means nothing to her. In a recent Instagram Story post, Mariel expressed how she doesn’t like being tagged in pageant posts.

Mariel’s title means nothing to her.

De Leon pointed out that women are not just the title that society chose to give them.

“I’d appreciate it if you guys could stop tagging me in pageant posts (especially if it doesn’t even involve me). I don’t like being called ‘beauty queen’. It means nothing to me. Women are not whatever ‘title’ society chooses to ‘name’ us. Women are so much more than that.”

Mariel remains thankful of past pageant journey.

De Leon is thankful for being named as Miss International-Philippines 2017 that gave her doors of opportunities.

“Yes, I’m thankful for my past pageant journey because I wouldn’t have had the opportunities I’ve had if I didn’t win BbP International. But I’ve closed that chapter in my life… I’m not the type to care about titles, positions, crowns, or names. None of that matter to me. What matters to me is me, my family, dogs, art, and classical music.”

Mariel avoids fake people.

De Leon didn’t want to surround herself with toxic people and situations.

“I do not want to surround myself with toxic, negative, and fake people anymore. I like having a simple, quiet, and private life – unless I post something on MY social media. It is mine. I choose what to show you. You not see everything in my life. I control what you see. -“

Mariel wants to reflect on her life.

De Leon encouraged her followers to see what actually matters to her.

“Its good to reflect on your life and open your eyes & hearts to the things that should actually matter. See ya.”

Earlier this month, Mariel expressed her congratulations to her successor Ahtisa Manalo for being the first runner-up in the Miss International 2018 pageant.
