Former Ilocos Sur governor Luis “Chavit” Singson said he already acquired the Miss Universe Philippines franchise from the Miss Universe Organization and is no longer withBinibining Pilipinas Charities Incorporated (BPCI).

Rumors started when Singson accompanied newly-crowned Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray along with his daughter, Richelle Michael. The former governor even hinted that the Miss Universe 2019 will be held in South Korea.

Chavit said he already acquired Miss Universe Philippines franchise.

In an interview with Philippine Star published on Sunday, January 13, Singson expressed how BPCI should make a formal announcement soon.

“True, the franchise is already with me, but it has not yet been announced. I think it shall be formally announced this January or February, when Catriona comes back again to the Philippines… Binibining Pilipinas Universe will be replaced with ‘Miss Universe Philippines.’ Noon pa binibigay sa akin ‘yan because I’ve been helping them since 2016.”

LCS Group of Companies is owned by the former governor himself. It should be noted that LCS Group of Companies successfully sponsored the 65th Miss Universe where 2015 Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach passed her crown to Iris Mittenaire of France in 2016.

If this would push through, Gray will be the last Miss Universe-Philippines crowned by the Binibining Pilipinas.

According to Chavit, he was offered the franchise.

According to reports published on Monday, January 14, Singson noted that he has yet to accept the franchise amid being quoted that it was already with him.

“Miss Universe offered it to me before the event in Thailand last year but did not accept it yet because it might be an additional work load for my company.”
