Family History will be the launching movie of GMA Pictures and Mic Test Entertainment. It is set to premiere this July 24 inPhilippine cinemas. It will tackle a heart-warming story about the values of life, marriage, and love that will always lead you home.

The film is written, produced, and directed by Kapuso Comedy Genius Michael V. who marks a milestone in his career by wearing these many hats for a project.

Michael V. also takes on the lead role as Alex Dela Cruz, a happily married man who finds himself at a crossroad in his life when a life-changing disease challenges his marriage to his wife, May, portrayed by returning Kapuso Dawn Zulueta. Dubbed as ‘BiDawn,’ this is their first team up and both are honored to be working with each other.

“Napaka-flattering at napaka-humbling na experience makatrabaho ang isang Dawn Zulueta. Siya talaga ang gusto naming kunin sa simula pa lang. Masaya at magaan din siyang kasama,” said Michael V.

Likewise, Dawn admitted to being a fan of Michael V. “I’ve always wanted to work with Bitoy. Always. I’m a fan. ‘Yung mga characters niya sa TV, tuwang-tuwa talaga ako.”

The movie will also be led by the promising love team of Bianca Umali and Miguel Tanfelix dubbed as BiGuel.

Miguel will portray as Malix Dela Cruz, Alex and May’s only son; and Bianca will be Jenna Roque, Malix’s girlfriend who longs for a family.

Also part of the stellar cast are John Estrada, Paolo Contis, Nonie Buencamino, Kakai Bautista, Ina Feleo, Mikoy Morales, Nikki Co, Jemwell Ventenilla, and Vince Gamad.

Primetime King Dingdong Dantes and multi-awarded comedienne and TV host Eugene Domingo play special cameo roles as Dr. Ronaldo Cruz and Liza De Guzman, respectively.

Family History is set to spar against the highly anticipated Disney movie The Lion King, a live-adaptation of the original 1994 animated film which will be released on July 19, 2019. Going up against this foreign movie, Family History has a daunting task in front of them to do well at the box office.

Donald Glover is the voice of Simba, the young lion next in line to rule the Pride Lands. James Earl Jones will star as the voice of Simba’s father Mufasa, reprising his role from the original 1994 animation and Beyoncé was revealed as movie director Jon Favreau’s first choice for the role of Simba’s friend Nala.

Apart from this, the much-awaited Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards movie Hello, Love, Goodbye will premiere a week later on July 31, 2019.

GMA Pictures is the network’s effort to reboot its movie arm after GMA Films seemingly faded into the background because of its past unsuccessful releases. Most local films nowadays are in a “dire” situation according to acclaimed director Erik Matti. The underlying reason is reportedly the domination of foreign movies and the proliferation of video streaming websites.
