Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach will be skipping the Miss Universe 2019 Pageant in Atlanta due to an invitation she received from the Japanese government.
Pia was being asked to be one of the backstage hosts during the MU Pageant where Catriona Gray will be passing on the crown to the next queen, while Gazini Ganados will represent the Philippines.
Pia explained that she had to turn down the offer since she has to travel to Japan to feature a festival in Fukuoka for her travel show. Had she known the date and venue of the event prior to her commitment to the Tourism Board of Japan, she could have found ways to adjust and accommodate the request.
As Miss Universe 2015, Pia affirmed that withdrawing from her Japan appointment is not an option.

“My travel show was invited by the tourism board of Japan to feature a festival in Fukuoka. Our working visas were released already before MUO announced the date and venue. MUO invited me to be backstage host with CHI and I really want to! BUT it would also be impolite for me to cancel my trip to Japan. Government invitation yun. At may mga visa na kami. Sayang. If I had known sooner baka nagawan ko pa ng paraan.”
This revelation was made by Pia in the comments section of one of her Instagram photos.
