In an interview with Senator Lito Lapid, the veteran actor revealed that Coco Martin personally approached him to be part of FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano for two weeks, with the latter admitting he was one of the Senator’s longtime fans.
Sen. Lapid revealed, “Sa may sabing idol daw niya ako, kapwa Kapampangan. Tapos kinausap niya ako kasi ayaw ko mag-artista. Pinuntahan niya ako personal, sabi niya two weeks na lang magtatapos na Ang Probinsyano. Ako ang gustong i-ending.”
Meanwhile, his son Mark Lapid stated that they were supposed to be part of the TV series for only two weeks but was extended to two years. During this time, they were able to get to know the actor better.
“Actually ang agreement namin don, kami ang closing ng book 1. Parang pagkatapos nung ke Arjo (Atayde) yata for the short period, two weeks. Two weeks po inabot ng dalawang taon. Kaya naging close kami parang magkakapatid na, sa tagal na naming nagsasama kilala na namin ung bawat isa, hindi ung bilang magkatrabaho, yung totoong tao.”
In addition to that, Senator Lapid described Coco as a person who always has a soft heart for people who are in need.
He said, “Mabait, matulungin, lalo na ung kino-cover ni Korina (Sanchez), mga taong napariwa, ung adik, walang pagkain ung nakatira nalang sa daan. Binibigyan ng pagasa, chance. Maawain din siya dahil kasi galing rin siya sa hirap.”
Sen. Lito also firmly believes that if ever Coco will join politics, he would be a good senator to help improve the country. It’s just that Coco is not willing to run for public office.
Lito shared, “Pwedeng-pwede, madali sa kanya eh. Pag sasabihin mo sa kanya politika, tumatakbo ‘ayoko ayoko’ ayaw talaga. Sa tingin ko sa senado easy easy sa kanya, kasi ginagamit ung Probinsyano dalawang party list na probinsyano, probinsyano ako, pasok sa congressman, e ako nga dahil di naman talaga ako bida, pero kita mo malaking advantage sa akin.”
