Veteran actress Dina Bonnevie on Tuesday said she is being urged by “many, many people” to run for political office.
During the media conference of Anak ni Waray vs Anak ni Biday held at the GMA Network Center, Dina said among those who encouraged her to enter politics were her husband, Ilocos Sur Representative Deogracias Victor “DV” Savellano, and Batangas Representative-actress Vilma Santos-Recto.
“Marami talaga naghihikayat sa akin na ‘ikaw na, ikaw na pagkatapos ni DV.’ Hinihikayat nila ako tumakbo, na maging bokal o whatever, to run kapag natapos na iyong term ni DV,” the veteran actress said.
“Ate Vilma tells me, ‘kaya mo ‘yan, kaya mo ‘yan. Ako nga artista, nakatawid ako. Now, I’m a politician,'” she added.

Dina said she was being urged by her husband to run for the Senate, but refused to do so.
“Gusto niya maging senator ako. Sabi niya, ‘Si Loren Legarda nga naging senadora. Kaya mo ‘yan. Matalino ka naman,'” the actress narrated.
“Pero ako, I’ll just go whatever His plans for me. Hindi natin masabi ang gusto ng Panginoon. But if you’ll ask me now, huwag na lang,” she went on.
“Sa totoo lang hindi ko pa nai-imagine ang sarili ko na (magsabi), ‘Hi! Iboto ninyo ako,'” she added.
Dina also admitted that she was “scared” to run for political office because of the corruption and threat of violence in politics.

“Magulo kasi ang politics kaya ako natatakot, especially in our town. Parang sabihin na natin na sana kung ako masusunod, sana lahat ng taong binoboto sa posisyon ay dahil sa mabuting nagawa niya, dahil sa mabuting serbisyo niya, dahil sa mabuting pamamalakad o sa mabuting pakikisama o pagtulong sa kapwa. At hindi dahil sa pera,” the actress said.
“Pero aminin na natin na maraming nanalo dahil sa (pera). Iyon ang ayokong part,” she added.
Dina quipped that she would only run for public office if there is an assurance to win.
“Baka kasi mamaya, ang dami mong nagastos tapos ‘di ka naman manalo. Di ba ang daming tumakbong ganyan, mga artista, tapos hindi nanalo. Then they went into the pits of depression… Ayoko!”
“Kung siguradong mananalo ako… go! Pero kung ‘di sure huwag na,” she added and laughed.
Dina and DV have been married since 2012.
As a politician’s wife, the actress said she currently advocates in empowering local weavers in Ilocos Sur.
Dina was cast as “Biday” in the upcoming TV adaptation of Anak ni Waray vs. Anak ni Biday.
The characters of Dina and Snooky Serna, as a “Waray,” are mortal enemies who both fell in love with the same man, played by Jay Manalo.
Their daughters, Ginalyn and Caitlyn, are played by Barbie Forteza and Kate Valdez.
Anak ni Waray vs Anak ni Biday is a remake of the 1984 film of the same name.
It will premiere starting January 27, on weeknights after “24 Oras.”
