Recently, Korina Sanchez-Roxas got the attention of the netizens because of her viral comments on Instagram following the government shutdown of ABS-CBN.
On an interview with Pinky Webb of CNN Philippines, the Rated K host couldn’t help but laugh as she was asked to explain why she commented that way, “They’re beginning to call me Daenerys and the ‘Mother of Dragons, so that could also mean they want to burn me at the stake, right?”
Korina then stressed that maybe netizens are not used to of this side since her job in the field of reporting expects her to be formal, “Maybe the netizens and the millennials today have not been very exposed to… Alam mo naman na ‘yan ang job description ko for 25 years. My mandate was really to slay, sister.”
These viral comments started when the National Telecommunications Commission’s (NTC) issued a cease and desist order against ABS-CBN, this prompted a lot of positive and negative reactions from the public.
Korina called a basher, “Bruha” when the netizen said that ABS-CBN is abusing its powers, “Please leave, Bruha ka.”
Solicitor General Jose Calida was also bashed for pressuring the NTC to issue a cease and desist order. This prompted Korina to tag Calida as ‘the mother of viruses”.
Korina believes that she can’t just keep quiet on the issue of the ABS CBN’s closure, “I think I just finally decided in a second when ABS-CBN closed—and it did not have to be closed and there’s no reason it should be closed, that’s my opinion—that we have to speak out. We have to tell it as it is, and there are no bones about it.”
“The closure of ABS-CBN is a big deal, and these are the defining moments in history where it cannot be gray. In history, all of these historic events… have been defined by black and white. It’s right and wrong. And you can’t be quiet.”
She also shared that she made sure that by answering those questions, she would use words that could be easily grasped by the netizens especially in this generation, “Why do I answer them that way, ‘yun ang tanong mo, di ba? Bakit gano’n? Alam mo, kung ang katapat ko ay Chinese, kung marunong akong mag-Chinese, icha-Chinese ko rin siya, di ba?”
Just like as she talks to her kids, in a manner that babies will understand, she made sure that everything she says is understandable, “‘Pag kausap ko ‘yung mga anak ko, sina Pepe and Pilar, I will talk to them in a manner that they can grasp, right? So kung ganon ang lengguwahe nila sa akin, para magkaintindihan kami e ‘di gano’n din.”
Netizens reacted to Korina’s savage comments and even tagged her Mother of Dragons, Daenerys,
