Navigate Netflix on your TV like a pro with these useful remote tips

New & Popular: Do you find yourself asking ‘what next?’ after that final episode of your favorite title?

Then this new menu option is definitely worth exploring. With just a few clicks on your remote, you will be able to see the new menu option called New & Popular.

This is the quickest way to find new and upcoming movies and shows, perfect for those who always want to stay in the know. It combines four super-useful rows in one: Top 10 (so you always know what the rest of Philippines is watching); New on Netflix (all the newest titles launched); Coming Soon (movies and shows about to release) and a new row called Worth the Wait, which includes future movies and shows that we think you will love.

The coolest part of Coming Soon and Worth the Wait is that you can click on the bell icon to set a reminder. That way, whenever the movie or show is out, it goes straight to your My List. How’s that for never missing all the new and exciting entertainment?

Remote Tip #1: To access the New & Popular option, you have to click left on your remote and select it from the list of drop down options on the menu.

Curate your ‘My List’: Raise your hand if you had an exciting new show in mind you wanted to watch over the weekend, only to forget and miss it as soon as it launches. (So frustrating!) That’s where the My List feature comes in. The feature serves as your curated playlist and is the fastest way to watch movies and shows you have selected without having to scroll through the different rows again. Whenever you see an exciting title you want to watch next, click it and hit “Add to My List”. In time, you will have created your own sizable list of titles you personally want to see.

Remote Tip #2: Either go left and scroll down to My List from the dropdown. Or better yet, when on the main page, simply hit the Up on your remote to go straight to your very own My List row. All the upcoming titles you added to your list are placed here automatically, giving you the power to instantly access those cool new shows that you have been itching to see.

Personalized screensavers: If you thought actively browsing was the only way to discover new movies and shows, then this cool and fun feature is definitely worth looking (literally) into. There may be moments that we have left our TV idle on the Netflix menu, or in the middle of a movie (to grab additional snacks or discuss the scenes you are watching) – then you may have noticed the activation of screensavers on your screen. What you may not know is that these screensavers are tailored to your taste! Netflix has had screensavers since 2016 to help members find movies and shows, but it was only earlier this year that the titles on screensavers are similar to what you might have watched before.

‘More like this’ when deciding what to watch next: If you enjoyed watching a particular movie or show, you can actually check out similar titles under the ‘More Like This’ tab under the show’s title page. This reveals a list of other titles that are similar to the show you have just finished watching. So, if you enjoyed that rom-com and are in the mood to find others like it, then simply explore the ‘More Like This’ option and discover titles that you may find interesting (which may potentially become your new favorite show! Trust us, it happens!)

Remote Tip # 3: To do this, simply click back into the title, and then click on ‘More like This’. And Netflix will recommend you titles based on the show you currently are looking at.

When you can’t get enough of a show, go to ‘Collection’: So you’ve finished watching all four parts of Money Heist, and the diehard fan in you can’t get enough. Then checking out additional clips via the title’s ‘Collection’ feature is definitely one cool way to feed your desire to see more of the show with never before seen footage, behind-the-scenes, and interviews related to the title.

Remote Tip # 4: Click into the title, and scroll to the bottom most part to view the collection (if available). For Money Heist fans, scrolling down will reveal the ‘Money Heist Collection’, which includes the Netflix Special ‘Money Heist: The Phenomenon’, a documentary on how the show sparked a global phenomenon.

Get the best sound and video: Entertainment fans are all obsessed with great sound and picture. If you find yourself owning a 4K TV and a cool soundbar with Dolby Atmos, then this tip is a must-do!

First, if you want to make the most of your 4K TV, make sure you’re on the Premium plan. Premium not only lets your family watch on 4 screens at a time, it is also the only plan that gives you Ultra HD video and Dolby Atmos sound. To check what plan you’re on, just go to Account and look for Plan Details. To change, select Change Plan.

Further, you want the immersive theatre-like sound at home. However, if your TV is connected to your soundbar/music system through a 3.5mm jack, you are getting stereo and not surround sound. Use an HDMI cable and plug in to the port at the back labeled ARC, or use an optical cable, often called Toslink. Once that’s out of the way, take your TV for a Netflix test ride.

Remote Tip # 5: To find that next visual and audio spectacle, go to the search bar and key in “Atmos”, “4K” or “HDR”, This will generate titles that will enable you to fully maximize that theater-like experience at the comfort of your own home.
