Amid the pandemic and shutdown, did ABS-CBN make a good move in acquiring new talents from its rival network?

Celebrities under Kapuso and Kapamilya are transferring from one network to another. This is quite normal in the Philippines. Network transfers usually give an actor a new career with new beginnings and journeys.

However, it is a big question why Kapuso stars still choose to transfer to ABS-CBN after all of the circumstances that the Network is going through.

To recall, ABS-CBN halted its airing on May 05 last year as well as its other ABS-CBN programs due to the network’s expiration of 25-year franchise and the National Telecommunications Communication’s (NTC) issuance of a cease-and-desist order to the network’s free to air stations.

The surge of COVID-19 cases had an impact to the networks as it will only allow shootings and tappings provided that it follows the precautionary measures implemented by the government.

Former Kapuso actress Janine Gutierrez bid her goodbye to GMA Network. On January 15 this year, she signed her contract with the ABS-CBN to silence the month-long rumors about leaving Kapuso Network. She said in BJ Pascual’s vlog, “New and different and I’m really looking forward to that this 2021, ‘di ba? Parang nagbago na ‘yung mundo.

“And I’m excited to work with the actors, the directors there yung mga team doon, yung mga production.”

Gutierrez also revealed that she is having a television series to work on, but she cannot spill more details about it. She also said that she will be having a movie with Paulo Avelino and JC Santos.

Veteran actress, Tetchie Agbayani decided to switch to ABS-CBN after working a long time with GMA Network. She was last seen in two-afternoon teleseryes in GMA Network, Contessa in 2018 and Dahil sa Pag-ibig in 2019, where she played antagonist roles.

Agbayani revealed her new project in ABS-CBN. She will be working with Yam Concepcion, JM De Guzman, and Gerald Anderson for the Kapamilya primetime series Init Sa Magdamag. She will be playing the role of JM’s mother.

Zach Castañeda, a former talent of GMA Artist Center, is now a talent of Rise Artist Studio. ABS-CBN launched this new management to help other young talents to find their place under the entertainment industry. On March 15, he was introduced as a new rising star of Rise Artist Studio together with Karina Bautista, Aljon Mendoza, Shanaia Gomez, and Bianca De Vera.

After 25 years of working with GMA Network, Sunshine Dizon is rumored to switch network after her contract was not renewed. The actress was allegedly spotted attending the story conference of the new project of Janine Gutierrez and Paulo Avelino.

Many were dismayed and even surprised after this issue was circulated. However, upon knowing the reason behind the switching of network–it was confirmed that Sunshine Dizon is now a freelancer.

Lovi Poe stirred up the issue on switching of networks when speculations that she was offered a project by the ABS-CBN. It was also said that Lovi will probably accept the offer.

If the actress will accept the said offer, her current project in GMA Network Owe My Love will be her last as a Kapuso. In July 2020, the actress’s three-year exclusive contract with the GMA Network has finally ended. Thus, this makes the actress a freelancer. Lovi Poe remains silent about the switching issue.
