RAWR Pulse: Which Among These Rising P-Pop Acts Will Dominate the Music Scene in 2021?

The meteoric rise of the idol group, SB19, has no doubt inspired aspiring local artists to follow suit, allowing a new era of OPM to begin and actually thrive, at a time when new sources of entertainment are scarce.

The relentless surge of P-Pop as an emerging OPM phenomenon looks poised to send more local idol groups to the charts, and make a name for themselves in the global music scene. As more groups continue to discover the secrets to the success of K-Pop groups, P-Pop’s shot at dominating the world stage only gets stronger.

Since last year, a number of new acts have gone into the limelight, following the leads of P-Pop pioneers, MNL48 and SB19. More new groups continue to come, introducing their own brands of P-Pop music whose fusion of western and native styles, isn’t something most Filipino audiences are familiar with. While P-Pop is still largely influenced by the popular Korean idol format, the emerging OPM subgenre continues to evolve and integrate Filipino flavors into the catchy hooks and beats of K-pop music.

This year, a number of these thriving P-Pop acts will go head-to-head with other emerging new artists in dominating 2021. There is no denying that the ongoing phenomenon will continue to develop, with the arrival of new aspiring acts, enabling these four groups to further ascend and mimic the success of their predecessors.

Which among these fast-rising P-Pop groups will make it big in 2021?

1st.One.

Having made their debut last year, this 6-member idol group continues to attract P-Pop lovers, with their contagious upbeat EDM music. Their hit single, You are the One (Ttak Maja Nuh) currently makes waves as one of the most popular P-Pop songs. 1st.One. Entertainment further pushes the group to join other acts’ forward march into the global music scene. 1st.One. is only expected to gain attention among the smitten P-Pop fans.

As P-Pop continues to enthrall audiences, excitement for 1st.One. and their incoming new singles likewise continue to mount.

ALAMAT

What makes ALAMAT a standout among emerging local idol acts, is its distinct take on P-Pop, which fuses local flavors with K-Pop styles. Their debut single, kbye, provides a vivid testament to the group’s commitment to carry our unique Filipino heritage, as they join other P-Pop groups to penetrate the global music scene, using Philippine languages and various cultural motifs in the music video, whose oriental beat and colors beautifully jive with its Filipino elements.

ALAMAT’s unique cultural spin to the still young,  but already evolving P-Pop genre, is a welcome push to OPM as it reaches new heights—an achievement largely made possible by the group’s P-Pop predecessors and a number of new OPM acts that emerged during the pandemic.

BGYO

BGYO’s blazing pace as an emerging P-Pop Idol group can only mean that the global stage is well within its reach. Having launched earlier this year, with the chart-topping debut single, The Light, the all-male, sing-and-dance group, composed of JL, Mikki, Gelo, Akira, and Nate–who are all teen idols in their own right. BGYO is poised to taking the OPM scene by storm, and soar further as they join the charge in P-Pop’s bid to conquer the international arena.

Later this month, the group will release a new track that would serve as the official soundtrack of the highly-anticipated web series, He’s Into Her, raising the excitement of their faithful fans, to an unprecedented level. Already one of the strongest P-Pop groups today, there seems to be no other development for BGYO, but to become an even bigger P-Pop phenomenon that would take the local music scene, by storm.

BINi.

This eight-member all-female P-Pop group is currently making waves in the P-Pop music scene, even if its official debut is yet to take place this year. This early, their pre-debut single, Da Coconut Nut, which is inspired by the classic OPM novelty, of the same title, has already catapulted the group into attention, which only means that fans are more than ready to receive them on their official launch.

BINi is expected to gather more attention as it approaches its official launch, set to happen soon. As it continues to incorporate local flavors to the distinct electropop elements of the idol music, the group will remain committed to restoring the vibrancy of classic novelty beats, but this time, with the unmistakable P-Pop character.
