Actor-director John Prats revealed that he got offended by Direk Lauren Dyogi’s words toward him about his directing.
In an interview with Rise Artists Studio’s We Rise Together, Prats talked about how he started his directing career.
When Prats did not have a contract with ABS-CBN, the ABS-CBN TV Production head encouraged him to do directing in the meantime.
“Wala akong contract sa [ABS-CBN] noon, kinausap ako ni Direk Lauren na, ‘Gusto mo ba mag-direct?'”
He said that he took Direk Lauren’s advice negatively and he felt offended.
“I felt na, ‘Bakit? Wala na ba akong worth maging artista?’ I took it in a wrong understanding, parang ganun ‘yung nangyari sa akin. Parang medyo na-offend ako kay Direk Lauren at that time,” he said.
At first, Prats took the offer lightly but he realized that the task is a new challenge for his career that’s why he accepted it.
He is now slowly transitioning to working behind the scenes as he recently became It’s Showtime director.
He is currently juggling his role as a director and as an actor in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.
“Right now, I’m enjoying the moments that I still have sa ‘Ang Probinsyano.’ If mag full-time na ako sa ‘It’s Showtime,’ alam ko na ito na ang priority ko, ito na ang magiging mundo ko. I’m sure I’m gonna miss acting but ang iniisip ko naman na this transition is kung saan mas kailangan ka at mas may bigger purpose for you,’ he said.
Direk Lauren introduced Prats to Direk Arnel Natividad where he learned the ins and outs of directing.
Moira dela Torre’s music video for the hit song Malaya was his debut in directing. From that, he was able to direct the singer’s Tagpuan concert.
