Now that national elections are coming, with many celebrities joining politics, Candy Pangilinan, Kim Molina, and Jerald Napoles, Viva’s newest movie Sa Haba ng Gabi, shared on Friday, October 8, the qualities they seek that the next Philippine President should have.
Pangilinan said she was looking for a candidate that is a problem solver, a giver of solutions.
“Solution-based, nakatingin sa solusyon, sa goals,” she said.
Molina and Napoles were looking for someone who has “transparency” and “decency.”
However, they cannot determine who among the presidential aspirants will get their vote.
According to Napoles, although he has a candidate in mind, he still has to make sure that they deserve the seat.
“Oo meron. In terms of kung tatanungin din na may naiisip na ba kayong iboboto? Kung tatanungin n’yo ako personally, kung may naiisip na akong iboboto, hindi ko masasagot kasi kailangang aralin eh. Hindi porke’t napupusuan ko hindi ko na uungkatin eh. Kasi tumatanda ako, lalo akong namumulat sa nangyayari,” he pointed.
The actor is sure that he knows who he will not vote for in this coming election.
“Pero, sasabihin ko sa inyo kung anong firm ako ngayon at anong meron ako na sigurado ako, ay yung hindi ko iboboto.”
Pangilinan also agreed with Napoles, adding that people are looking for a “solution-oriented” leader and not just because they are popular and the most likely to win as president.
“Andun ako kasi sa may konkreto at may ilalatag. Katulad ni Je, may gusto ka na—beyond na ako sa partido.
“May gusto ka pero gusto ko malaman: ‘Anong ilalatag mo? Papaano ba ito? Magagawa ba ito? Konkreto?’ Solution-based na tayo. Masyado na tayo sa ratings, sa popularity. Sa akin ha, I think ang tao andoon na sa ‘solusyon na lang tayo’, kung sino ang makakatulong.”
Meanwhile, the three have been asked if they are interested in entering politics which all said, “no.”
Napoles explained he is not ready to accept such huge responsibility but will help in any other way besides being a public servant.
“Pero meron akong, ‘baka hindi ko magampanan.’ Alam ko sa sarili ko na hindi ko magagampanan ng tama lalo na kung gano’n kalaking responsibilidad. Hindi ko nga maayos buhay ko eh. So sa akin, tulong na lang ako sa kung ano ang kaya ko.”
Molina, who will also not enter politics, said she would rather exercise her vote instead of being voted on.
“I think hanggang dun na lang. We would just exercise our rights to vote.”
The actress also said that being intelligent is not enough for someone just to enter the world of politics.
“Kaming dalawa ni Jerald we’re smart enough also, we’re intelligent people.
“Pero hindi yun sapat I think para maging basehan for me. Maraming pag-aaral ang kailangan if you want,” stressed Molina.
Pangilinan then added humor, saying she cannot be a politician since she does not know the preamble of the Philippine Constitution.
“Hindi ako tatakbo. May nag-offer kahit dati, maraming nag-offer na tumakbo ako. Hindi ko memorized ang preamble ng Constitution so ‘wag na lang. Dun pa lang talo na ako.”
