Kyline Alcantara recalls bashing experience because of her skin

On September 25, Kapuso artist Kyline Alcantara recalled her experience of getting bashed because of her skin.

During the media conference for her launch as the newest face of Ever Bilena, Alcantara revealed that people used to comment negatively about her skin.

“Of course, it’s always a struggle because there’s a lot of people that are always bashing my skin. They always say na, ‘artista ka, bakit ganyan ang skin mo.’ ‘Dapat role model ka, dapat hindi ganiyan ang balat mo.’ Like why are you guys expecting me perfect? Bakit ine-expect ng mga tao na porket artista ka you always need to be perfect, you always need to be ready every single time.”

She then admitted that she used to apply filters on her photos when she was younger.

“Dati filter on top of another filter, and on top of another filter and on top of another editing. Like hindi ako proud ipakita ‘yung sarili ko especially noong time na napakarami ko pang pimples.”

Alcantara eventually realized that she shouldn’t mind what people thought of her.

“Yes it’s our job but we’re humans too. So yeah, it’s a struggle but eventually narealize ko din po na may masasabi at masasabi rin po ang lahat ng tao. May gawin ka mang tama, may gawin ka mang mali, may masasabi pa rin sila.”

During her interview, she also recalled getting messages from fans who also have skin problems like she used to have.

“I see a lot of my fans na tweeting me, I feel so ugly, ang pangit ng skin ko. Sana parehas kami ng skin ni ate Ky, ganyan ganyan. Ang kinis kinis. She’s my inspiration talaga.

“And syempre ‘yung nag-inspire sa akin talaga is my bashers na may iba sa kanila, kasi may live shows pa po noon, may iba sa kanila nakikita nila ‘yung totoong skin ko sa pinopost ko.

“And totoo naman po ‘yung sinasabi nila. Kumbaga naging defense mechanism ‘yung pagpu-put on ko ng napakakapal na make-up at napaka-kapal na filter.”

She then shared how she told her team that she wanted to show her ‘real self’ to her fans and the audiences.

“And eventually I told my team that I want to show the real me. Bahala na kung ma-appreciate man ito ng tao, or ma-bash man ako ng mas malala. But at least, hindi ako nagsisinungaling sa sarili ko at hindi rin ako nagsisinungaling sa kanila.”

Alcantara became the newest face of the Philippine cosmetic brand, Ever Bilena, on September 25. Aside from her latest endorsement, she joined the upcoming GMA Network series, ‘I Left My Heart in Sorsogon.’
