The second installment in GMA Network-Regal Entertainment collaboration series, Mano Po Legacy clears the mist of heavy drama and controversy brought by Family Fortune.
Her Big Boss is a charming delight filled with contagious breeziness and warmth, and that’s partly thanks to the presence of several comedians in the cast.
The story still takes place within and around the Filipino-Chinese community, family, business, and the world of the elites remain the core of its plot. In Her Big Boss, the narrative shifts to the Lim family, headed by its powerful patriarch, Alex Lim (Ricardo Cepeda), who has just announced his intent to pass on his sprawling business empire to his sons, Richard (Ken Chan) and Raven (Teejay Marquez).
Their mother, Elaine (Marina Benipayo), favors the latter, who is the younger of the two, and she pushes hard to convince his husband to allow his favorite son to take over the throne he’s about to relinquish.
Like Family Fortune, Her Big Boss tackles a rivalry between siblings. The series marks both Teejay Marquez’s return to national television, and the first time he plays an antagonist role. Kevin Miranda, who charmed viewers with past lead-starrers The Lost Recipe (2021) and Stories From the Heart: Loving Miss Bridgette (2021) joins decade-long Kapuso homegrowns Bianca Umali and Ken Chan in a potential love triangle.
Umali and Chan both hailed from playing challenging roles in recent Kapuso dramas.
Chan who remains largely known for his ‘Boyet’ role from My Special Tatay, is symmetry and order-obsessed boss, who nonetheless owns a humongous charm, that is yet to be unleashed. Umali, on the other hand, just came from playing one of Dennis Trillo’s three wives, in the critically acclaimed, Legal Wives (2021). Here, she is a highly-spirited workaholic woman, who strives to prove her worth at work. Richard’s largely indifferent and perfectionist demeanor is poised to present a challenge.
Despite its early fuzzy and heartwarming feels, it won’t come as a surprise once Her Big Boss makes a drastic chaotic, and emotional turn. This is about families and siblings vying for control over a massive fortune and legacy, after all. The proceeding episodes shall prove whether or not such a theory is true.
