Asia’s Songbird surprised fans and viewers of her morning show, Magandang Buhay when she revealed she was hurt when Jaya left the country.
Regine Velasquez could not help herself but blurt out her emotions when she was asked about Jaya’s decision to leave the country.
Both have been close friends in the industry for decades. Jaya or Jaya Ramsey in real life–left the local showbiz last year to settle with her family in the U.S. Velasquez was celebrated her 51st birthday when the episode got aired on April 21.
During one of the morning talk shos segments, her fellow hosts Melai Cantiveros and Jolina Magdangal asked the singer-host to say the first song that comes to mind, when she remembers her friends in showbiz.
Onscreen, her friends’ photos got flashed onscreen. Velasquez got asked to comment on each one of them. One of those images was Jaya’s.
“Dahil Tanging Ikaw,” she said, referring to the first song she remembers when Jaya comes to her mind. “I miss you Iyay… I hope to see you soon.”
Iyay is Jaya’s nickname.
“Pero talagang kitang-kita na solid talaga kayo…(But it’s true…I’ve seen how you two are really solid friends),” commented Cantiveros, on Velasquez and Ramsey’s friendship.
‘Saka noong umalis nga si Ate Jaya, alam mo nga iniisip ko… paano kaya ‘tong dalawa maghihiwalay (I remember when Ate jaya left, I really wondered how you two are going to part ways),” Magdangal butted in.
“Alam mo hindi ko siya tinawagan (To tell you frankly, I didn’t call her)” shared Velasquez who now started to become emotional.
“Kasi nahuhurt alko… kasi feeling ko iniwan ako ng kaibigan ko. So hindi ko siya kinausap… hindi ko masabi na nahuhurt ako kasi iniwan mo ako, ganon ‘yung feeling ko (Because I was hurting…because I really felt left alone by my friend. So I did not talk to her…I can not inform her I was hurting because you left me)” she said, tearing up.
That said, Velasquez clarified that she and her friend, Jaya, are okay.
“I know that she has a reason to leave..naunawaan ko naman, ayaw ko lang intindihin, you know that?
She also said that while she is naturally an understanding person, she is not the same as Jaya, for some reason.
”Maybe sa dami na ng pinagdaanan namin…I’m being possessive, and I’m being selfish… but I know that she understand (maybe because of the fact that we’ve been friends for along time…that’ why I’ve become possessive of her),” she shared.
Regine and Jaya have been practically inseparable, as they both starred in many shows, in their career. Both moved to ABS-CBN in 2017 and 2018, respectively.
