At the media conference for ‘Tag-Init,’ which LionhearTV covered on January 9, award-winning filmmaker Jose Javier Reyes discussed the sensual genre’s popularity.
Reyes acknowledged the trend of the sexy genre, citing the need for it to evolve through storytelling.
The director pointed out,“Depende ‘yan eh, depende ‘yan eh, it can be a passing phase or it can be there, but then nag-iiba, kailangan mag-evolve, kailangan mag-evolve. Kasi, alam naman natin na there are trends and trends come and go, ang importante ay lagyan ng laman at kahulugan ‘yung pelikula at hindi lamang ito maging sexy genre.”
He then noted his upcoming Vivamax film as an example of a sexy genre movie with a story to tell.
Reyes shared, “… kung sexy at sexy lang, pagsasawaan ‘yan, pero kung may kahulugan at may sinasabi ‘yung pelikula, ‘yung adult content, is part of the message being sent…katulad ng Tag-Init hindi ba? Although it has mature content, may sinasabi siya tungkol sa journey ng buhay ni Martin at ‘yung dalawang demonyong kasama niya portrayed by Aerol and by Ali. At tsaka ‘yung contrast ng dalawang babae, portrayed by Franki and portrayed by Yen.”
Reyes also raised the value of focusing on the content of the sexy-genre movies. He also shared how he reminds the sexy stars he works with about valuing their talent over their looks.
The famous filmmaker remarked, “…yan din ‘yung sinasabi ko sa lahat ng mga artista, katulad ni Yen at I told this to Franki, and to Chel, and Denise, that you know, for you to have the body, you have to be a talent, you have to be a talent, because your talent will last…I mean, it’s all part of the process, and I think we should learn from it, and you know that it is part of an evolution.”
‘Tag-Init’ stars Franki Russell, Yen Durano, Ali Asistio, Clifford Pusing, Aerol Carmelo, Axel Torres, and Marc Acueza.
The new Vivamax film, directed by Jose Javier Reyes, will be available on the streaming app on January 20.
