Canadian producer Ovelo claimed that Asia’s Phoenix Morissette Amon has the potential to replace Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez.
In Ovelo’s YouTube update on April 18, he listened to Filipino singers singing live.
He listened to Maghihintay Ako by Jona Viray, Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin by Lani Misalucha, Forever’s Not Enough by Sarah Geronimo, Lason Mong Halik by Katrina Velarde, Ikaw Pa Rin by Aicelle Santos, How Could You Leave by Regine Velasquez, Hanggang Ngayon of R&B Queen Kyla, and ’Di Mapaliwanag by Morissette Amon.
He was amazed by Amon’s vocals saying that the singer can consistently whistle while singing live.
“See? She did it again exactly the same way. And we’re talking about whistling here. It’s crazy!” he said.
Ovelo then claimed that Amon is already on par with Velasquez and can even replace her as Asia’s Songbird.
“Tell me something. Can Regine do that? Can Katrina do that? I think the only one that maybe can do that is Jona. Jona may be able to whistle like that and I’m not even one hundred percent sure.
“And I say that she’s the successor, the rightful successor to Regine, to the throne, that throne that we all know that Regine has, right?
“Because on top of whistling, she can do almost everything else with such precision and excellence,” he said.
Ovelo is known for his Pinoy content where he would listen and explain the vocal techniques of the singers. He currently has over 1 million subscribers and 300 million views on YouTube.
