The episode saw the declaration of General Santos City native Lyka Estrella as the ninth grand winner of the long-running singing competition.
More than 255,000 concurrent live viewers tuned in on their gadgets and smart television sets for the grand finals of the sixth regular season of It’s Showtime’s Tawag Ng Tanghalan, aired yesterday, May 6. At its peak, the competition drew nearly 215,000 live online viewers on YouTube (Kapamilya Online Live + Showtime Online U feeds), and more than 40,000 on Facebook.
That’s on YouTube and Facebook alone and not inclusive of those who watched the show live via iWantTFC or other IPTV services. Those who watched on their regular TV sets(free TV and cable), are also not included.
This new record erased the previous one set by Vhong Navarro’s comeback episode last January 16, which attracted more than 245,000 concurrent viewers on YouTue and Facebook.
A resbaker, Estrella brought the house down with her electrifying final performances. Her medley performance in the second round of the finals had the entire judging panel giving her a standing ovation.
As the winner of this season, Estrella takes home a cash prize of PhP1 Million, a house and lot worth PhP2.5 million, and an exclusive management contract under Polaris Star Magic. She is notably the third Tawag Ng Tanghalan grand winner to be declared since the onset of the pandemic and ABS-CBN shutdown, the other two being JM Yosures (2020), and Reiven Umali (2021).
