Dolly De Leon emphasizes the importance of the film industry in building an economy

On August 23, actress Dolly De Leon emphasized the importance of the film industry in building an economy.

At the media conference for ‘A Very Good Girl,’ which LionhearTV covered, De Leon pointed out that releasing Pinoy-made films like ‘A Very Good Girl’ would open doors for the Philippine Cinemas.

“It’s very important because it’s opening the doors of Philippine Cinema again. Because matagal tayong natulog. Although ngayon napapansin ko naman na pumupunta ‘yung mga tao sa sinehan, dahil may mga foreign films na pumasok na especially last week lang ata or two weeks ago, may dalawang pelikula na lumabas na medyo malakas.”

She expressed her faith in the Filipino audience to support their upcoming film.

“And I have a good feeling about that because I have faith in the Filipino audience. I have faith that they’re looking forward to watching homegrown work again.”

She then noted how the film industry stimulates the economy through various industries.

“So it’s very important kasi you know, some people say that movies are just a form of entertainment. No. Movies really help shape and build an economy.

“Hindi, totoo, kasi dahil sa film industry maraming ibang industry na umaandar. ‘Yung food industry, ‘yung retail, marami. Beauty industry, skin care, ‘yung mga ginagamit natin everyday. Nagflo-flourish din ‘yun dahil sa industriya ng pelikulang Pilipino. That’s very important.”

She then asserted feeling proud of being a part of ‘A Very Good Girl,’ noting how it may convince moviegoers to return to the cinemas.

“That’s why I’m very proud to be a part of this because I’m helping open the doors again for people to come back in the cinemas and have a cinematic experience.

“Kasi iba ‘yung nanonood ka sa sinehan kaysa manood ka sa bahay. Sa bahay pwede mo i-pause at mag-CR, sa sinehan forced ka to watch everything and you get the full experience with pop corn and with friends and it’s a huge screen. So it’s very important to me and all of us actually.”

As for ‘A Very Good Girl,’ the Star Cinema movie stars Kathryn Bernardo and Dolly De Leon as a mother-daughter duo.
