On November 8, comedienne Eugene Domingo discussed whether it’s more difficult to do comedy in this generation.
At the media conference for the reboot of ‘Takeshi’s Castle,’ which LionhearTV covered, Domingo remarked that it was never hard to make people laugh, especially when a comedian has the perfect timing.
“Iba’t ibang target market di ba? Pero it’s never hard if you are authentic, if you are authentic, it’s never hard to make people laugh. Siguro sa pinaka malungkot na sitwasyon, let’s say sa lamay o ano, basta na-trigger mo na nandoon na ‘yung perfect timing mo, mapapatawa mo kahit anong edad, kahit anong panahon, because, nandoon na sa atin, especially Filipinos, they really love to laugh and we love having fun.”
She then recounted how she accepted her hosting stint with ‘Takeshi’s Castle.’
“Unang yes, is Takeshi’s Castle is the most popular Japanese game show in the whole world. So noong nalaman ni Danilo Bottoni, ‘yung forever ko–sabi niya, ‘Oh you’re doing Takeshi’s Castle, we love watching Takeshi’s Castle in Italy.’ And ang title niya sa Italy ay Mai Dire Banzai. Plus another yes is I would be working with Smokey and Sassa Gurl.”
She also admitted that she ‘stalks’ her younger co-host Sassa Gurl, noting her talent for comedy.
“Ngayon ko lang sasabihin sayo, ini-stalk kita, I really find your post, I really find your utak so mataba, and I think in your generation, if you can, if some people, some producers would really trust, you would be the next Kimidora. Pero since wala nagtitiwala, sorry.
“Makakatrabaho ko si Sassa Gurl? Na-starstruck ako, na kinabahan ako na parang sinabi sayo ng teacher na, ‘Oh, mag-fie-fieldtrip tayo sa Manila Zoo.’
“It’s an exciting opportunity to work with this upcoming comedians. Iba na ‘yung level nila Smokey, hindi sila sa TV sumikat, sa social media, but they’re doing very, very well. At ang dami rin nilang tagahanga, at tsaka wala siyang takot.”
The reboot of ‘Takeshi’s Castle’ features hosts Eugene Domingo, Smokey Manoloto, and Sassa Gurl.
The Japanese game show includes eight episodes with guest commentators such as Maris Racal, Zanjoe Marudo, and Ketchup Eusebio.
‘Takeshi’s Casle’ streams on Prime Video starting November 16.
Manaloto hosted ‘Takeshi’s Castle’ in 1989 with Anjo Yllana, performing the roles of Emporer Takeshi and Iwakura.
The Japanese game show returned to air after 34 years with a global premiere in Ebisu Garden Place in Tokyo, Japan, in April this year.
