Globe and LyrOPERA Unite in song and purpose to address hunger

Leading digital solutions platform Globe and the country’s premier non-profit opera company LyrOPERA have come together to take action on involuntary hunger through the heart-stirring performances of the twin bill, “Cavalleria Rusticana” and “I PAGliacci” (CAVPAG).

The renowned verismo operas, resonating with themes of love and betrayal, are poised to captivate audiences on November 10 and 12 at the historic art-deco St. Cecilia’s Auditorium in St. Scholastica’s College, Manila.

The partnership aims to offer a rich musical experience while motivating communities to rally behind the Globe-led Hapag Movement’s mission to combat widespread hunger and unemployment afflicting millions of Filipinos. Proceeds from the back-to-back operas will directly support the Hapag Movement and the LyrOPERA scholarship fund.

In collaboration with the Hong Kong opera company Tutti, the performances promise a blend of world-class talent and profound purpose. The event is supported by esteemed entities such as the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, the Philippine Heritage Society, Globaltronics, and the Cultural Center of the Philippines, under the auspices of the Embassy of Italy in Manila.

Audiences are assured an unforgettable experience as the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, under the expert direction of acclaimed conductors Fan Ting for CAV and Horst-Hans Bäcker for PAG, weaves enchanting melodies. Multi-awarded director Carlos Siguion Reyna will lead stage direction for “I Pagliacci.”

To bring the much-loved melodramatic stories to life are Hong Kong opera artists Leung Siu Kwan, Vicki Wu, Henry Ngan, Michael Lam, and Christy Li in the main roles for CAV. Meanwhile, PAG will be headlined by Philippine opera artists Sherwin Sozon, Rica Nepomuceno, Zip de Guzman, and Glenn Gaerlan, along with American Isaac Droscha as Tonio.

“Music transcends boundaries and touches souls. Through our synergy with LyrOPERA, we bring together music with purpose as we endeavor to deliver tangible support for families still struggling to get sufficient daily sustenance. We urge everyone to join us on this transformative journey,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe Group Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer.

“We are excited to bring to Manila two new operas that will surely stir emotions with haunting songs and lyrics. As much as music moves audiences, we’d also like to send a message of hope to those who deal with hunger every day,” said Sherwin Sozon, co-founder of LyrOpera.

Globe and LyrOPERA have already made strides in addressing involuntary hunger with their recent fundraiser concert, 懷念老歌 (Music of Yesteryears), which raised PHP200,000 for the Hapag Movement. With the aid of the Tzu Chi Foundation, these funds will be used to help over 1,000 tech-voc and college scholars.

All patrons of art, champions of change, and advocates of a hunger-free world are invited to be part of the advocacy by purchasing tickets at TicketWorld. #CometotheOpera #CAVPAG #LyrOPERA #HAPAG.
