Ally Miggy Jimenez called upon Filipinos on March 13 to be more accepting of the LGBTQIA community.
In an interview during the Star Magic’s ‘Spotlight’ press conference at Limbaga, Quezon City, Jimenez, who plays Poch in ‘Senior High,’ expressed his resentment to how Filipinos are still unaccepting of his character and LGBTQIA members in general.
“It’s a big deal kasi, especially with the stigma, like here sa Philippines, parang lagi siyang issue. I really hate it coz’ tao lang naman din ang pino-portray ko and ang daming anggulo na wala namang mali,” expressed the former child star.
Give them a chance to “hear them out,” Jimenez said.
“At the same time po, kumbaga bigyan sila ng chance, hear them out. Because they go through what Poch did go through.”
Being an ally in real life and a member of the series, Jimenez received an outpouring of support from LGBTQ members.
“People message me like sa social media that they also went through the same thing. ‘Yun po ang nakakaba lalo ng work na nakaka-motivate, nakaka-inspire. Kasi parang, ‘Oh, they relate to my character,’” he shared.
“That’s the benefit of me having the privilege to tell their story in front of the camera. Sana bigyan po natin ng chance to hear them out; there’s nothing wrong with it,” added the actor.
Having played a character like Poch, the Kapamilya actor realized he had to consider “everyone’s feelings,” regardless of gender.
“Being an ally, it’s been crazy. Sobrang lumawak ‘yung isip ko, especially considering everyone’s feelings. Walang gender po talaga, anyone and everyone’s feelings, sobrang importante po talaga ‘yun,” he said.
