Aboitiz Economic Estates and Batangas State University Advance Workforce Sustainability with First Industry-Based Microcredential Graduates

Jobs sit at the center of how industrial growth translates into economic and social outcomes, strengthening household stability, reinforcing community resilience, and sustaining long-term competitiveness. Education plays a foundational role in this equation, particularly when aligned with evolving industry needs and emerging technologies. When skills development keeps pace with economic transformation, it strengthens the pipeline of employable talent and supports more inclusive growth.

The initial cohort of 21 professionals from LIMA Estate’s locators, including EPSON Precision Philippines, Japan Tobacco International Corporation, Big E Corporation, and Mitsuba Philippines Corporation recently completed their Industry Microcredential Certification in Data Management.

With the programme now in full swing, the inaugural batch of 21 learners drawn from leading locators within LIMA Estate—under the joint workforce development programme of Aboitiz Economic Estates and Batangas State University—has completed their industry-based certification in Data Management, marking an early milestone in advancing a jobs-first, education-centric approach that embeds talent development within industrial ecosystems through the Industry Microcredential Programme developed and implemented by Batangas State University’s Center for Innovation in Engineering Education (CIEE) in collaboration with industry partners within LIMA Estate.

From Industrial Development to Workforce Systems

Aboitiz Economic Estates integrates industrial expansion with structured talent development. Through partnerships with academic institutions and government, the programme bridges classroom learning with workplace application, ensuring learners gain competencies aligned with industry needs. This reinforces a core principle of the estate model: industrial growth depends on workforce strength.

Workforce development is embedded early in estate planning, aligning education, industry requirements, and infrastructure in a single environment. Programmes are co-designed with locators so skills formation evolves with manufacturing technologies, operational standards, and global demand—supporting scalable growth backed by a reliable talent pipeline.

The partnership with Batangas State University keeps training aligned with shifts in technology and industry needs, allowing employers to focus on operations while accessing a steady talent pipeline.

A Competitive Edge in Investor Decision-Making

“Education shapes the quality of the workforce and the confidence of investors. At Aboitiz Economic Estates, this has informed how we have developed our estates over time—ensuring that learning systems evolve alongside industry, so jobs take on greater depth and investment is supported by real, existing capability within the ecosystem.” shared Rafael Fernandez de Mesa, President and CEO of Aboitiz Economic Estates and Aboitiz Land

As the integrated real estate platform of the Aboitiz Group, Aboitiz Economic Estates develops environments where industry, infrastructure, and communities advance together. In estates such as LIMA, this model supports sustained job creation and stronger local economic activity, contributing to long-term regional resilience.

Operationalizing Workforce Sustainability at Scale

LIMA Estate is a PEZA-registered Economic Estate home to almost 200 investors and provides livelihood to 75,000 individuals. Standing at 1100-hectares, it is the largest privately-owned industrial estate in the Philippines.

At LIMA Estate, the strategy is already producing outcomes. The 1,100-hectare estate hosts nearly 200 locators and supports over 75,000 jobs, with upskilling initiatives such as Talent Edge strengthening its workforce base.

Batangas State University supports this ecosystem by aligning academic programmes with industry requirements, giving students early exposure to applied technologies and operational environments, and supporting smoother transitions into employment under the joint workforce development programme.

Building Resilient Industrial Communities

The initiative extends beyond skills development to link employment, education, housing, and community infrastructure into a connected system. This ensures talent development is supported by the broader environment where people live and work.

By embedding these elements within its estates, Aboitiz Economic Estates supports environments where businesses operate efficiently while workers gain access to long-term stability. This strengthens the link between economic growth and social development.

With a legacy spanning over 120 years of academic service and nation-building, Batangas State University continues to evolve while remaining anchored in public education and regional development. In the same way, the Aboitiz Group brings its own century-long legacy of enterprise and transformation.

A senior logistics manager from one of LIMA Estate’s locators presents her capstone project, reflecting a strong commitment to lifelong learning and the application of new capabilities to real operational challenges within an evolving industry environment.

“Together with our industry partners, we are committed to strengthening skills and competencies aligned with industry needs. We seek to foster a growth mindset and a culture of lifelong learning among employees and individuals pursuing upskilling,” shared Dr Vaberlie Mandane-Garcia, Batangas State University Vice President for Development and External Affairs “Batangas State University, The National Engineering University remains a proud and steadfast partner of Aboitiz Economic Estates in building a future-ready workforce shaped by the evolving demands of industry.”

Sustained Momentum and Regional Impact

Momentum within the estate continues to reflect this direction. Expansion of locators within LIMA Estate, alongside growing interest from East Asian investors, signals confidence in the integrated model. As industrial ecosystems become more complex, the ability to align talent, infrastructure, and community within a single platform is becoming a key advantage.

Taken together, these developments reflect a more integrated model of industrial development that strengthens capability-building, supports enterprise growth, and reinforces long-term shared prosperity.
