Veteran actress Angel Aquino expressed gratitude for the positive and respectful response she received after opening up about her sexuality.

Aquino, who previously shared that she is attracted to women, clarified that she never intended to make a formal announcement about it.
“I like girls. I fall in love also with girls and women,” she said.
“Ako rin nagulat ako. Kasi hindi ko naman siya pinlano. It wasn’t something like, ‘I’m coming out today,’” she added.
The actress noted that people had long been aware of this aspect of her life, but it was simply not openly discussed.
“I feel it’s something that people have known for a very long time, and we just don’t openly talk about it. They’ve seen me with people I’ve been with, and hindi ko naman siya tinago ever,” she shared.
She also thanked members of the press for respecting her privacy over the years.
“The press people have been kind not to pick on that. And then they waited for me to, I guess, say something about it. And when I did, thank you then for the kind response. I’m really grateful about that,” Aquino said.
Reflecting on her journey, Aquino emphasized that she has always stayed true to herself.
“I have been, ano ba, confused or, you know, I mean, I was just being myself. I love the people I fell in love with. Hindi ako namimili. But the press did not give me a hard time. You know, they didn’t pry. Hindi nila ako pinilit,” she explained.
When asked if she is open to doing more Girls’ Love (GL) projects, Aquino responded positively but stressed the importance of quality storytelling.
“Sana, kasi project din yon. Pero siyempre, importante pa rin yung material. It’s a very touchy subject. Kailangan i-handle with care and the quality of the production,” she said.
Aquino has previously appeared in projects exploring queer themes, including ‘Huling Chacha ni Anita’, ‘Kaputol’, and ‘Silig’.
