Television host and actor Ryan Agoncillo became a trending topic online after his remark about his wife, actress Judy Ann Santos, during their guest appearance on ‘Matteo G. Primetime’ hosted by Matteo Guidicelli on Bilyonaryo News Channel.

The moment in question came when Guidicelli asked Agoncillo whether he would allow Santos to have another leading man in a movie.
“Subukan niya!” Agoncillo replied, drawing laughter from both Santos and Guidicelli.
He added: “Ako iyon talaga ‘yung sagot ko sa lahat… ang lagi kong sagot sa kanya, ‘Gawin mo, saka na natin pag-awayan’.”
As the conversation continued, Agoncillo explained that his remark was not meant to restrict his wife’s decisions, but rather reflected his usual way of responding.
“Meaning, let the woman decide. Pag-awayan niyo na lang after.”
He further clarified that if a decision works for him, he would not object.
“These decisions, syempre, if it works for me, hindi na ako aangal o makikipag-away. But [if it doesn’t work], she will consult me, and I will be, ‘Sige, gawin mo, saka na natin pag-awayan.’”
Santos, for her part, appeared to take the exchange lightly, even joking about how she might interpret such remarks.
“Kasi kung sinabi mo namang, ‘subukan mo,’ eh hindi mo naman na gagawin!”
Clips from the interview quickly circulated on X (formerly Twitter), prompting varied reactions from viewers.
Some expressed concern over the tone of Agoncillo’s response: “Sounds like a threat.” “‘Subukan mo’ sounds like a threat, wtf.”
Others interpreted it as emotional pressure: “It’s like gaslighting? Guilt tripping??” “Ang tawag diyan… ‘Guilt tripping.’”
Meanwhile, some fans of Santos voiced disappointment, especially those hoping for a reunion project with Piolo Pascual: “RIP Piolo & Juday Projects.” “As a huge fan of all the Juday-Piolo films, this really saddens me.”
There were also comments questioning Santos’ reaction during the interview: “Why is Juday laughing so much? Is that an awkward laugh because her husband’s answer is embarrassing?”
As of writing, Agoncillo has not issued an additional statement addressing the online backlash.
The couple, who first met on the set of the 2004 series ‘Krystala’, have been married since 2009 and share three children.
