Everyone has a wish—some spoken out loud, others quietly kept, and a few eventually released when holding on becomes too painful.
Set in the quiet town of Shifen, where lanterns carry dreams into the night sky, The Flying Red Balloon tells a deeply emotional story about love, fate, and the choices that shape our lives.

At the center of the narrative is Jaja, a vibrant and quick-witted woman who makes a living guiding tourists as they write and release their wishes. While she helps others let go of their dreams into the sky, she secretly lingers on the wishes left behind—words that sometimes feel like they were meant for her.
Her routine changes when she meets Teng-Teng, a quiet and reserved man who begins returning to Shifen day after day. Each visit comes with a new lantern, a new color, and a new wish. Intrigued by his silent ritual, Jaja slowly finds herself drawn to him.
What begins as curiosity grows into something deeper. With Jaja, Teng-Teng discovers a rare sense of peace—something he has never experienced in a life dictated by family expectations and obligations. For the first time, he desires something of his own choosing.
That choice is Jaja.
But their connection is tested by the realities Teng-Teng cannot escape. Outside of Shifen, his life has already been planned, leaving little room for personal freedom. Loving Jaja means risking everything he has known.
Faced with uncertainty, Jaja makes a painful decision—to let go.
Because sometimes, walking away feels safer than waiting for a love that may never fully choose you.
Yet the film raises a lingering question: what if wishes don’t simply disappear? What if the ones we release eventually find their way back?
When they do, are we ready to hold on—or do we let go once more?
The Flying Red Balloon offers a poignant reflection on love, timing, and the courage it takes to choose—reminding viewers that not all wishes fade, and some are meant to return when we least expect them.
